Google Calendar - who uses it?

Gang -

I know there are several online based DJ tools, but I have not gone that route - and most likely won't in the future.

That said, does anyone use Google Calendar to keep track of their events - not contracts, just block dates for easy access anywhere?

Well, since I am a party of one, I figured if nothing else, just use it to help keep track of meetings and bookings like having a regular paper based calendar.

Thoughts?
 
You can do the same on a Smartphone/Blackberry if you have one. No need for internet connection.
 
That was the reason for Calendar. Having it at my fingertips everywhere I might wander off to.

That is why a Smartphone or Blackberry is more versatile. You can even access Google on it.
 
I use it in conjunction with my online tools. I have it set-up to sync with my Outlook and I can also access it via the calendar app on my phone.

I like it because I can share it with others, so my wife can check it out anytime to see when I'm DJing, and I also have another DJ I share calendars with so we can send referrals when the other is available. Very convenient and very easy to use.
 
It's a great calendar app. because of it's sync and share ability.

But, it's not a substiute for a good contact manaegent tool, you still have to employ serious tools for serious work.

Jim had a good suggestion, use Google Calendar with your contact manager. However, I've seen some less than ideal solutions where you have to manually export your appointments one a time...and if you change the details in your contact manager you have to manually delete and re-add the appointment in your calendering system.

A much more efficient way to handle this is through iCalendar feeds. To synchronize you need to set up the feed and then subscribe to it in your calendering system. The synchronization happens automatically.

Over at DJEP we support both methods. Some users still manually export their events/appointments one at a time. For the life of me I can't figure out why they'd want to that. I think I'll pose that question over on our Facebook page.
 
I enter my appointments individually into Outlook (which syncs to Google) so I can create custom reminders for each wedding. Most I do 4 weeks prior so I can get in touch to do their final details meeting. But some, I'll do earlier than that or later than that. Does DJEP allow you to set-up when you want to have Outlook pop-up your reminder for each event? If so, that is a nice feature and then it wouldn't make sense to enter them individually.
 
I use it, but prefer to keep track of leads/inquiries/booked dates using other programs (DJ Event Planner and Gigbuilder). Both programs publish an iCal feed that Google keeps sync with, so my Google calendar always shows the right information regardless of where I access it - at my office, on my phone or iPad, or on my laptop.

The advantage of the iCal feed exporting in DJEP and Gigbuilder is that you can decide how much information gets included - the start time, end time, client's name, location, etc, and you can share it with anyone who has the link. A half-dozen of my DJ friends share iCal feeds among ourselves, each containing just the basics - start time and end time. If a customer calls me and I'm booked on a particular day, I can see everyone else's availability with just a few clicks, and recommend a DJ that I know is available to help the customer. It's so much easier than recommending a few people and making the customer do the legwork.
