1. Why are you a full-time DJ?...... I love being my own boss and run my life as I see fit..
2. What made you decide to become a full-time DJ? What was your calling?..... you want the long story, sit back here we go boys and girls...... my first DJ gig was a Boy Scout/Girl Scout dance when I was in 7th grade, 1969..... since then I have been doing this off and on. In 1984 I was married and had a daughter, wife, house, boat and worked as a butcher in a Union shop. All the benefits you could want and seniority up da arse. I could not get fired! Then two things happened I ran my finger thru a bone saw. That didn't make me happy,,, 4 months later my wife left me for a drummer. A DRUMMER!!!!!! anyway, so now I'm on my own again. Disillusioned with the meat trade I think back to what has always been part of my life that I have loved doing????? DJing !!!!! So I called an agent buddy I knew, (who BTW booked the band that had the drummer that stole my wife, but I'm over that now) and asked if he would book a DJ. He said yep... Now bear in mind, he was a good buddy who was also feeling guilty about the whole DRUMMER deal, but yeah, I'm over that, so I needed a system, he leant me $15,000 at the end of 1984 to go buy a system. So I did and it frickin' rocked! In Oct of 1985 I went full-time and had him paid back by the end of 1985.
still with me?
In 2004 my new wife, who BTW we just celebrated our 17 year anniversary, moved to Maui. I've been a full time single system MDJ since 1985. It can be done IF you have the desire to make it happen. Okay, next question....
3. How did you succeed in becoming a full-time DJ?..... Two things, I had an agent and I quit my day job. You wanna make it full time? quit your day job. As long as you have something to fall back on, you will never do whatever it takes to make it.
I could go on, but my fingers are tired
