It's all good! I wish I could remember which speakers everyone owns...

Mikey, have you thought about the FBT MaxX 2a? It weighs 27.8 pounds which is close to the same weight of the K8 but it will give you much better stand-alone bass (50 Hz @ -5 dB) than either the K8 or K10. http://www.rmcaudiodirect.com/FBT-FBT-MaxX2a-p/maxx2a.htm

The RCF ART 710-A is just under 25 pounds in a 10 inch, 129dB output, 750 watts RMS / 1500 Program / 3000 Peak (QSC watts). Great bass 50 Hz @ -3 dB. http://www.rcf.it/en_US/web/rcf/products/pro-speaker-systems/art-7-series/art-710-a The RCF tromps the FBT (121 dB max) in terms of output.

Only downfall of these two speakers is that the input section is not as versatile as the K series. Then again, that may not be something you need.

Mikey, did I hook you up on pricing for the FBT's? The memory is the first thing to go. ;)
The same place / guy also sells RCF. :)

Steve, I will look into both of these speakers. Fact is, I really do not need all of the inputs that the Kseries offers, but I will say this, they really do sound nice. Hell, the K8 was LOUD and really had some low end punch. I could not believe how much sound came out of that box. That being said, the 10" even sounded better. It had more fidelity, so I am sure anything FBT or RCF makes in 10" is really good.
Thanks again for your input.

Oh and YES, by the way.... I did get my FBT's through Erik at RMC. Great deal and good guy to do business with.

Yeah, Erik is great! He has a smoking deal on right now for the ART 705-AS subs. I may just have to add a third with the Can $ almost at par. One sub for each of my three children. I mean, that would be fair, right? I wouldn't want them to fight over them one day when their old man kicks the bucket. ;)

PM me for pricing details on the sub if you're interested...

I use a pair of 10" two ways over a dual 12" sub for most of the events I do up to 300 people and never break a sweat. They are KV2's.

LOL Bill,

And what do they run each? Somewhere in the $1500 to $2000 range?

I had a couple of pairs of DTH5's that used 10" drivers too! They were coupled with a couple of pairs of DTH 218's and a pair of DTH 215's that too was concert level sound!:sqwink:

But we are talking about DJ's here!:sqlaugh:

wow my Dyna tops are smaller than that. I wonder how they sound so good with my Power sub 15 and its passive sister.

As a proud owner of the ZXa5s, I was truly looking to the ZXa1s for a good ceremony speaker but after demo'ing them at Sam Ash against the K8s... I couldn't sacrifice what seems like almost double the volume for $100 savings. The ZXa1s seem like they have a sheet over them in comparison to the K8s. They sound 'good' whereas the K8s sound 'exceptional' for 8" pro audio speakers.

What erk'd me was the limit light was coming on rather early on the ZXa1s and the volume wasn't really that loud (inside the store). I could imagine them straining at an outdoor wedding ceremony. The K8s got a lot louder playing the same music and it got too loud for the area of the store we were in so we never reached their limit lights. Maybe I'll replace the QSC logos with EV logos for uniformity...

Gaffe,

I suspect the problem was with the Sam Ash hook up rather than the ZXA1.

Bill,

I own a pair of ZX1's (not the actives) and to be honest while they sound good they do not reach a very high volume level before they start to distort!

Don't get me wrong they work great for the application I am using them for they were just unable to handle a 150 person bar situation "to my satisfaction"!

I'm talking about for ceremonies & cocktail background music. (or small functions, not a bar)

But for those that have compared both...how does the active compare to the passive?

Bill Kexel,

While I do not own nor have I ever heard the actives, I would say the ZXA1's would do fine for that application, I certainly wouldn't hesitate to use them for ceromony or dinner/cocktail music!

My purchase was intended to downsize small bar setups below that which I already have, while still maintaining the volume I needed, I failed miserablly in that attempt!

Gaffe,

I suspect the problem was with the Sam Ash hook up rather than the ZXA1.
It was a cookie cutter setup (a CDJ2000/Numark mixer setup w/left and right 1/4" outputs). We even swapped/reversed the output signal feeds... same story. I wanted the the ZXa1s to be my ceremony speaker. I wonder if they'll come out with 10" or 12" models (hopefully with more output and bigger EV sound).

... and this time, compare it to the competition (QSC) and make it better.

A fellow DJ in my area bought a pair of the EV ZXA1's that everyone has been talking about. He too, has been raving about them.
He hooked me up with a great deal from a vendor, so I ordered a pair.

I'll give my opinion after using them.
