is no help to anyone. If you say that and then follow it up with the thoughts you gave in your later posts would make your statement more useful and not as arrogant sounding.

You should also learn to add in your statements "IMHO" because that is what it is. Because some disagree with you.

People can not make a blanket statement about anything. It is always their personal opinion.

Anything anyone says on this or any other sites is simply opinion! It always has been and always will be.

My opinion of the ZX1 is that it make a great sudio main (for my very small studio) I know for a fact that it can't handle much power, Although within it's power range and SPL range it sounds damn good! My problem with them was that I could not get the SPL levels I was used to from other speakers. I know my first mistake was going into the purchase without test driving them, my second was expecting more from them than they were capable of giving. Honestly I based that "mistakenly" on other peoples opinions of the ZX1s.

Had I been able to return them for a full refund after one use I would have done so (my bad for purchasing them from where I did)! I certainly have to give Bose credit for their return if not satisfied policy!

Believe it or not many of us hear the same thing from people all the time, I had a girl driving through from Myrtle Beach to Pittsburg last Wednesday She told me that she goes to Karaoke three nights a week in Pittsburg and hit every Karaoke show in the Myrtle beach area when she was there. She said my show was the best she had ever been too both in Myrtle Beach (which I find hard to believe because I know there are some great shows there) and in Pittsburg (which I know nothing about the shows up there)!

I have had band members come to my shows and tell me the sound was awesome, I have had nationally known singers at my shows and compliment my show and sound. (I take it all with a huge dose of salt)!

I am sure Joe, Mike, Harry and many others get these same comments as well, the one thing I don't do is let them go to my head.

When I do karaoke I try as much as possible to give it the same sound level I would if I were running sound for a band! I want my show to be the focus of the bar not some quiet little operation off in a corner somewhere!
 
Good point about the complements. I can see how some folks would say that just because they want to talk to you.

I went to a Karaoke show a couple of nights ago where the guy was using a pair of JBL speakers-I couldn't see what model-he had them on the floor and it was dark. He also had a Samson monitor and the whole thing was quite loud. It didn't sound that great to me and I suspect that he had absolutely no clue about operating a mixer or EQing sound. He was using Samson mics and a entry model Yamaha powered mixer. My voice sounded like crap to me and needless to say I will not be back to that show.

Last night I went to another Karaoke show where the KJ was using Peavey PR12 speakers on top of SP5s and one powered sub. The sound was better than the other night-he was using a driverack, a 16 channel Yamaha mixer and SM58 mics. The SM58 mics made a huge difference. The point? Good mics can make a huge difference. I am probably going to buy an SM58 if I start hosting Karaoke regularly. My EV Sx100+ speakers sound way better than Peavey PR12s. I know, they cost twice as much, but they sound two times better IMO. Good speakers are worth whatever they cost. Good mics are worth paying more for. There is a reason why SM58 mics are so popular, they're really good.
 
Don't even get me started on the PR series speakers (they are not Peaveys by any standards) I bought a pair and used them ONCE! I then gutted them including the crossover Replaced the drivers with Black Widows and XT22's!The SP5s are OK speakers but really no comparision to the SP2s for sound quality! (but they will still kick the ZX1s all to pieces for SPL)!:sqwink:
 
Keith -- just make sure we don't point them towards each other at the same time. Those between us may not know what hit them! ;) lol

Seriously though, I'm EXTREMELY happy with my TourX system and other than trying to add a piece of EV recommended equipment to make them sound even more badass, I don't see me dropping any cash on my sound. I'm onto upgrading my lighting.
 
What I found interesting is that this guy was running through the driverack with the PRs set as high/mid, the SP5s as mid/low and only one little subwoofer. What produced the most thump and sound? The SP5s. They sounded like subwoofers and were on the floor upsidedown under the PRs. The Scorpions are pretty close to Black Widows, I was surprised. This was a big place with lots of people and the volume level was pretty high. I would do things a bit differently, but the people had a good time and overall the sound was decent-better than most places I've been to. The onboard vocal effects on Yamaha mixers isn't very good either. My little Alesis Multimix 8 mixer has much, much better vocal effects.
 
I agree that the Scorpion is a better speaker than what comes in the PR series but it still isn't close to a BW! Scorpion Speakers make a great mid range unit though.

I pretty much was not a fan of onboard effects engines, the Alesis 4 was always my general choice for effects engines. However, since using the Tascam 2488 as a Karaoke mixer I changed my mind on the onboard effects (for that mixer only) but I am sure that there are many other great effects incorporated on other digital mixers as well.

I think it depends on the level of the Yamaha mixer that is purchased, the Yamaha O1V I was using had a fantastic effects engine built in. I miss that mixer!

If possible could the powers that be please delete all out of context comments by me from this thread? (that would be all comments I made LOL perhaps just strip the entire thread and let Jamie have it clean)

Find any kevin nichols gig log and it's the same set up he uses!

No Actually they have found a proper place in my studio! The Impulse 200 actives I was using were just too much for the studio, the Zs are doing nicely where they are.

Now if you really want to trade I would be more than willing to trade them for a decent pair of Mackie HR624MK2s...:sqwink:
