I was in Guitar Center the other day and got a few minutes to check out the Evolve 70. In short, I was not impressed, at all. The 70 has a 15" sub in it and the cabinet is HUGE. I figured it was an 18. I didn't try to pick it up but specs say it's 78 lbs and the cabinet is probably too big for one man. Next up, they dropped 2 of the mic channels, compared to my 50m. There's only 2 mic inputs, a L/R right input with RCAs and a channel of Bluetooth. Next up, the sound. Tubby and poor definition on the low end. Sounds a lot like the newer Bose units. In contrast, my 50Ms have a lot of deep end and the voicing has a ton of great definition. In short, the 50s and even the 30s smash the Evolve 70. It's not even close.

There's no getting away from a big heavy box when it comes to 15" or bigger subs.

By the time I get to needing that level of base - it's not merely a DJ gig anymore,. It's more like a small concert and I'm not going to use these stick style arrays.

I played some really large events in the past at Casino's or Trade Centers (usually really large pharma or tech companies) with 800 or more people. Sometimes that's a band and DJ playing together for continuity, or sans band it would include a team of dancers. When you need that much sound you have to forego the notion of "portability,"

I have the Yamaha array style system I really like its sound and portability, however just for kicks I ran my yamaha DXR 10’s over DXR 15’s at my last gig, I had forgotten how good that combo sounds

I just spoke with a bat mitzvah mother. If she books me I will only be bringing two 12" speakers on this event because the mother said there will be a bunch of kids there that can't handle loud Bass (the adults don't want it either), or swirly/flashing lights. So I told her I could bring a few up lights at no charge for the lighting.

This is a lower key bat mitzvah. They are ordering Olive Garden and Pizzas for the dinner, and will have a photo booth set up and an art station (The daughter and her friends are the artsy type) so there are multiple things for the kids to do.

This event came in for a Sunday in May, so I don't mind doing a bat mitzvah if it books. She is talking with 2 other DJs before making her decision.

I just don't see the need for the events I do to have a 15" SUB at all, or a big Evolve 70 system brought out. I have no interest any more in owning big equipment any more due to this, and the fact that I hate carrying/loading bulky gear.
