The EV's even being 12" will totally smoke JBL EONs. I had a set of Powered and still have a set of passive. I will say the old EONs have to be one of the worst sounding speakers on the market.

My Turbosounds I feel are better than the EV's in certain situations. Again they are the 1st powered speaker I would reccomend to anyone. If I can't blow them up they are built like tanks!

They are very good, I would take them hands down up against any speaker under $1200 on the market.
 
I want a set of passive speakers too, especially since i have an amp that i can use in case my powered speaks give me problems. On top of that, I would have to spend twice as much for another set of 112Ps as "backups" until i do my larger shows during prom season. I do have a couple of corporate gigs with 500 - 1200 in attendance that i can use 4 tops for, but usually can get away with my EONs for the 500 show. I borrow another set of EONs for the 1200 show.

I don't have powered Turbo Sounds, i have 3 Turbo Sound TXD 118s;)
 
Mine have been in service for about 30 days I have 25 shows on them and have honestly played them loud as possible for 4+ hours a night. No signs of weekness. I plan to add more soon. The one bar I'm at I need 4 top and 4 subs to fill the place. I eventually want to go all EV.

Why go halfway with a front loaded woofer and also get horn loaded subs? I sold my front loadeds and love my Growlers. You could buy 2 and only bring one to smaller events. I guess I could too, but I always bring a pair. :trismug:

Also, I'd go with the 15" mains. This gives you some bass for small events when you don't bring a sub at all, and it lets you crossover down at 80-85Hz where many subs should be crossed.

What are your settings on the 12's (Input and Loudspeaker) and the 18's? Are you at 4:00 like Rick?

I ran 15" drivers for the longest time. I'm tired of luggin' all that weight around. They did sound deeper than the 12's but I don't miss the weight. I still use them when I need to. When I don't, I'm bringin' 12's only or 12's and some subs.

If certain things work out I will get the ZXA5s instead of 4 ELX112p, just 2 of those and 2 of the ZX1As. I love my turbosound cab and like it for smaller events plus I can fit 2 of them in my small Ford Escape with my small lighting package:)
 
Nice plan. I hear good things about the ZXA5's. I have passive ZX1's and they rock too. They've been used for small indoor events and have performed backup duty for my SP2's and PPro 115's and actually pulled duty one time without any problems.

OK, so both of you agree that a couple of pounds of weight difference are more important than which sounds best? The pro audio guys have plenty of statements on why they laugh at DJ's, you really don't have to keep giving them more..... :yosigh:

Will YOU or all of these so called sound experts PLEASE donate money to purchase these growlers for me? What I currently have for my small sound set up works for me dude. If you purchase the growlers for me, I will be more than happy to use them to satisfy all the pro sound "experts"...

Can you define 'Pro Audio Guys'? Are these the same people paid (by insert name here) to get you to buy their stuff? To some extent, I'm a 'Pro Audio Guy' - we all are. Is a couple of pounds of weight difference more important than which sounds best? The answer - that depends. One reason there are SO many cabs and drivers to choose from is because there is no one size fits all - for acoustics alone. If there WAS a one size fits all, wouldn't we all be using it?

There are also some modern day cabs that can outperform older cabs by leaps and bounds - and they're lighter. I'm willing to bet the farm that most mobile guys are not buying new drivers every year. They're running them until they die.

Also, if you go back and read, you'll see that I'm actually upping my game. I moved from single passive 15" cabs to active 12" cabs with 18" subs - so while I am lighter on the stands, I am heavier on the bottom.

Let's also be honest and admit that most of our guests don't know they're missing anything. There are plenty of professional level people that run several shows with 12" drivers only - no subs. I ran a 15 for 22 years without any complaints - in fact, I have had lots of compliments. When I first got my QSC K12's, I knew I'd be missing some sound but figured we'll see what happens, what people say and how they respond. To date, no complaints and still compliments. I missed the sound because I knew it wasn't there. No one else missed it.

So I've effectively lightened my load and perform in the same capacity - no one's missing anything. I'm upping the ante by bringing 18's to the table - which again, we'll see what happens.
 
My actual first response to such an asinine statement was pretty good but I was having some issues with my computer. I think your response (ittigger) was great and very tactful. My initital response was more of an uppercut in the nads:) I love all of these presumptuous omnipotence complex having people on these forums who feel you have so much to prove to them as if they are venture capitalists!

As I have stated before, it's all relative! I have heard mixed reviews on the JTR Growlers from these so called pro sound audio "experts"... AGAIN... relative.
