Double Post Auto Merge

To many ads? Support ODJT and see no ads!
Dan, not to be rude, but I think YOUR pet-peeve is just that, YOURS. I personally don't like the multi--quote functions, becase if you want to quote something out of that might be directed towards you or a comment you made, it's a hassle to make sure you delete everything correctly so that it views correctly.

.........I guess I'll just have to quote, wait for a reply, and then quote someone else......:)......then, I guess you can clean it up if you don't like it. :)

True it is my pet peeve, I don't believe I'm alone it either as I have seen plenty of other boards install this functionality. One admin actually installed it to make my job easier because as a supermod I kept merging posts. This is at a webmaster forum where guys are constantly bumping their posts to make more sales and what have you.

It's more about keeping things clean and orderly. The other day I cleaned up a thread that was 4 pages long, when I got done merging all the double posts it was down to 2 pages and most of it was one line replies.

On top of it you got people who will post 1 line replies back to back, there no reason why it cannot be in one post .

Then you have the people who thing post count means something and continually double post just to drive up their post count.

By all means if you're having a conversation going back and fourth with someone that's fine but to make one post after another with short one liners is just wasting space on the page.

FWIW, it makes it less cluttered, who wants to see each others sig line post after post... I Don't. I also encourages post & thanks pumping.

I would expect Dan to do the same thing to me, and I wouldn't have any second thoughts to the question of it thereof.
 
Dan, here's a little problem that I have.

I gave a review of my TourX system yesterday. Today, I added something to the thread. MOD was applied and merged the two posts. The post cannot be edited now and I think it looks stupid the way it reads. At least if I could edit it, I could add a timestamp or "EDIT:" to the post. Or, maybe set a time limit on the MOD seeing the duplicate post, to allow you add to the thread. Another thought, if I added to the post, does it show as a new post to everyone? I assume not since it didn't move up on the thread listing.
 
Randy, You can edit posts for 24 hours after you posting it. I just modified the settings so that after 24 hours back to back posts will not auto merge. If you link me your post, I'll clean it up for you.

Edited to Add:

When a post is merged by the system, the thread isn't bumped to appear as though a new post was made this is to stop thread bumpers from bumping threads.

In this case, it wasn't a 'bump' it was an actual comment that I wanted to additionally share with others that have been following my TourX review. Without them knowing it was added, how will they know there was more info that I shared if they've already read the last post? I think the additional setting tweak you've done, will be helpful. Thanks.
 
I think that this so like Marvin's last name.

I have this really cool thread, for example, about my really good charitable DJ business, where I posted an E-mail message that I sent.

I got a reply and posted it; hence, it is "Auto Merged" (so like Marvin's last name).

An effect is lost.

Oh, well. I don't like these forums, anyway.
 
Now, get this:

I had started another thread because I could not post a new post on top of my last post in this thread.

I also started another thread to show people that I got a response to the E-mail that I had sent in my charity thread.

And, now, since I got another response, and nobody else has responded to either of those other threads, I am itching to start yet another thread.

But I love you, Dan, and I know that you would disrespect me for being a thread-monger, so I shall refrain from starting yet another thread.

I am just grateful that somebody posted on top of my last post in this thread so that I could post a new post.

Note that I say "on top" because I have configured my settings so that threads show newest posts...on top!
