Here it goes. I got a call today from a guy about doing a sweet 16. He got my business card from somewhere and decided to call me. He wasn't sure about the details and gave his ex wife my number. As it turns out she was the one paying to give her grand daughter this party. The party is set for March 30th in their backyard. That's if the weather is OK to do it. If not I said it was OK to reschedule the party. Just as long as we have that date open.The party is going to be around the corner from where I live at.
So I decided we could meet today. She liked that I said we could do the party. She said she talked to some other DJ's and they either said they don't do them or they would call her back. She would wind up calling them back and they said they can't do it. So i had to go to my partners house and get a copy of the contract because I no longer have it on my PC and my printer isn't working properly. We went to Staples to get some printed out. She called to see if I was going to still meet her today. I said yes. When we talked on the phone she quickly agreed to the price I quoted her. I decided the party is going to be from 6pm-10pm. So for 4 hours in the backyard I told her $400.00. I threw that in because I know that someone on here was going to ask that question.
Now we get there and we're talking to the lady. The question she had was did we have the right music for the party. I told her yes. She truly liked that the contract was very detailed. I told her that was to protect both parties. Now we meet the girl the party is for and we just had a simple question for her. What kind of music did she want? My partner mentioned a couple of names that hit the nail on the head. He mentioned Tu Chain and Lil Wayne.
Next comes down the mother of the girl who the party is for. I just happened to mention we would play only but a few songs to make the adults happy too. Not a bunch of old stuff but just some of the dance participation songs. Like the Wobble or Cha Cha Slide. Just so the adults don't feel left out too.
Now the mother mad a bad statement to me about how she didn't want the grand mother at the party. She was thinking she was going to have us play all this old music. That's not the case at all. That to me was a mess because she isn't paying for chit. The grand mother is footing the bill.
The mother asked us do we have up to date music? In other words at both our ages do we know what type of music to play for a sweet 16? I get it because sometimes that happens. They think a younger DJ would be a better fit. That's not the case at all.
Now just so you all will know we have another sweet 16 to do a week before that. We also have possibly a birthday party to do on March 8th and a reunion party in April. So things are picking up. It's not me just depending on the bar for work. I just had to share this story. It shows it's good to respond to a potential client in a timely manner. I believe that's what sold her on booking us to do this event. Also the old saying is true. Never judge a book by it's cover.
