Do you ever put out a tip jar?

To many ads? Support ODJT and see no ads!
For me, even back when I was doing bars, it seemed like most of the time when someone gave me a tip it was because they wanted the worst song played at the worst time. Worst than that, they then felt like I should play ANOTHER really bad song for them since they tipped me.
 
You mean it's wrong to go from table to table at a wedding with my hat out?
 
I have played for pay and I have played for free but I have never played for tips.
I guess I'll put a tip jar out right after I see one in my dentist's office.
He's a professional and so am I.
 
NEVER -- not even in bars! I would gladly accept them, but never put out the jar, it looks like UR begging 4 money.

I'll joke about it, but I'd never do it.....EXCEPT maybe under unusual circumstances where I was doing an event for FREE but the event organizer insisted that we come up with a creative way to compensate me for donating my time!

No longer a active DJ you wouldnt be there for hire and would be a professional Bum which most city code allows without question.:sqlaugh:

I don't need a jar -- it goes right in my pocket :)

Bars -- all the time.
Boats -- all the time.
Corporate - depends.
TT bars - that's the pay.

Weddings and formals are handled discreetly, and palmed.

I've always generally made more off tips, than the actual pay -- works for me (maybe not so good for the IRS) -- but I don't work for them anywho ;)
 
Nah. That tip jar stuff is for starving musicians. :D

As Bill mentioned, I've played for pass-the-hat and I've played for free. We go in there knowing what to expect. In my opinion, a tip jar is not needed for DJ companies.

We don't work for a bowl of soup and gas money. :)
