Does it bother anyone that there are secret forums out there?

Ok...who told you about the super-secret, never mentioned, midwest dj alliance board? Oops..guess I just did. :triwink:

Anyways...it doesn't bother me that some want to hand pick and select their membership. In alot of cases, great info is shared that way and without all the drama an open forum entails.

While your at it folks

Join the unfriend Steve movement that'll fixem:tritongue::triwink:QUOTE=Steve Sharp;432987]Mental note: unfriend EVERYONE named Rick! :tricool:[/QUOTE]

'Secret' forums don't bother me anymore than the secrecy of Area 51 which I could careless about. Everyone has their own way of doing things. I think inviting only a select group of people limits the potential of the forum on a whole and promotes group think.

Private Forums are a better idea IMHO then a select few on a secret forum. Block all search engines and require a nominal registration fee to prove identity and keep out the lookey loos. This way DJs can really get down to talking business without fear of reprisal of a client registering and reading it.

Personally, I think we have a great balance here :)

Unfortunately, I think many members don't understand the connotations behind private (search engine blocked) forums, and public forums that are available here.

Somebody should do a video tutorial on how it works, so folks would know where to post info about say a client (put in a private forum), versus something they want the world to see...

Nobody reads manuals anymore -- they go straight for the YT videos... :sqerr: :sqlaugh:

who cares its all a bunch of idiots,
that think they are better than others and are not at all

no 2x djs are the same and we are all different

so what they do on that so called secret forum is thier problem...

i'll stay as I am

I just started a secret forum. I can't tell you what it is, because it's secret. This forum is so secret, even those that are allowed to be in the forum don't even know they are allowed. I barely got in.

In our forum, we cover such important topics as....well, I can't tell you what they are, but trust me, they are important.

We also don't do things like....well, I can't tell you that either, but we certainly don't do it THAT way.

If you want to join the forum, please don't ask for the link, because it's too secret.

You just violated rule #1...which I can't confirm or deny because doing so would violate rule #1.012(b)(s).

I'm not even typing this. :yohypnotize: :yoMad: :yoSweat: :yoDur: :yo:Annoyed:

If someone had a secret forum, and no one could read it, would it make any noise? :tritongue:

na its all full of hot heads

its because they think they are better than everyone else

what a load of bullcrap!

I think this thread answers your question. 3 pages of insight, fun and from what I read, no hate....

I cannot count the number of friendships I've made and the amount of help I have both received when a newer DJ (I didn't START until 40..in 1996) and now as a more experienced performer am able to provide folks who were newer DJ's.

There isn't a day that goes by that I don't learn something.

experiencing people who don't contribute and only bring you down is common on any public forum.

I'd say that Weeding them out becomes the most valuable skillset to learn when navigating a forum, because it saves time ,effort and often money, because you learn who to trust and who not to trust, based on their contributions.

I cannot speak for others, for it's been my experience that you get out of something what you put it into. I've put a lot into it, and I've gotten more than my fair share of help, answers and support, no matter how simple the question.

But yes, They have been more beneficial than harmful, imnbho.

It simply boils down to respecting others the way you wish to be respected.

This as a factor in the online experience is to all other factors as the number 4 is to 1 in terms of beneficiality. Otherwise, it's simply a trainwreck.

I wonder this from time to time.

From the very public forums like Our DJ Talk, DJ Chat and whatever the hell Ryan Burger calls his now, to the ones that are less public or invite only. I have been a part of most on both ends of the spectrum.

It's been about 15 or so years since these were introduced to the DJ Industry nationwide.

Has it helped or hurt the industry?
