I know there are a lot of east coast peeps here. Who is going to DJ X next month?
I will be there very likely for the full 4 days. Been to each and every one since the first one. Usually I’m only there for 2 or 3 days but have something to attend on the first day. A couple of years ago I won a photo booth and last year a headphone case. I alway run into some guys from way so back. They just don’t have the big showcases with the up & coming artists like they used when PromoOnly did their thing. Other than that you get out of it what you put into it. Always like meeting new people and getting a different perspective. Don’t really pickup equipment but have run into some small good things like us lights, stands & cases unexpectly.

I have it on my calendar, but I think it's unlikely I make the drive at this point. Maybe my attitude changes between now and then, but I'm not feeling the draw this year.

Not going. I won't have enough time to take off of work to make the trip up. My wife also said I'm not going this year, so there's that!

I'm almost wondering if the DJ Expo will survive to make it another 5 years. We are an aging group, and attendance has seemed to be in decline in recent years along with vendors paying out the yin yang to be there, and often losing money because sales are low at the show. Deals weren't anything special the last show I went to.

It'll survive as long as it's profitable. If it were held anywhere else besides New Jersey, it'd be dead in the water by now.

I’ve been at every single DJ times convention since the first. If they could make it thru last year they will probably doing shows for while. Last years show was really small but numbers were down for everything I went to, including CES which was about only 1/3 of the size it usually is. The DJ expo being so close to NYC is why it’s working. There are so many DJs in NY. It’s a quick drive down. One year when I was extreme busy & had only one day to make, I was able to jump on a Bus which dropped me off in A/C for the day. Actually it was cheaper than driving.
But the people attending are different now. I saw plenty of families and much more of the cut & scratch crowd. Things are definitely different now. In my area there’s a couple of schools teaching DJing & mixing.
Last year they had a couple of interesting Seminars, one focusing on older DJs. I do miss the Promo Only events, Pizza parties & smaller events in suites they don’t do anymore. But I do pickup a couple small items each year & meetup with some of the older guys from way way back. My son’s liked the shows pre Covid but his tastes reflect todays trends.

I do miss the Promo Only events

Everyone misses those, for sure. What a lot of people didn't realize is that Promo Only was simultaneously hosting their own convention for radio programmers while the DJ Expo was going on - The Promo Only Summer Sessions. That show's parties were epic...I mean, we saw a very new Lady Gaga perform (badly) twice in one night, saw Pitbull tear the house down another year, and saw a few dozen other acts in between those two (Mike Posner was my personal favorite). Being able to attend those artist showcases was a huge perk to DJ Expo attendees. Unfortunately, the Summer Sessions are a thing of the past - the website for that convention is still stuck in 2018.

Great memories though.

I remember that I was like who the hell is this Lady Gaga, they brought it back a second time so,”Acorn” could introduced her. Lol, yeah I know it’s a Akon but the previous is funny. I remember getting on Jim about putting in some seating because after being on my feet all day I couldn’t last the whole. My favorites were Pitbull, Salt n Pepa & Kelly Rowland.saw so many artists over the years.

Pitbull before he was popular? I am assuming this was like DJX '02 or DJX '03. I have his first album from 2004. Loved that album! If he was at DJX in 04 than that was truly a treat at the time as his album came out that month and he already was popular down in Florida.

I didn't get to attend my first DJ Expo until 2012. I remember the very first ADJ Pizza Party. ADJ only did that party two years in a row then didn't bother with it, but it was a fun party, and free cheap pizza and salad! lol

Sorry for the late reply. Took a little to get the schedule all lined up, but I will be spinning at Noon on Tuesday and at 1 PM on Thursday. There will also be other very talented DJs spinning in the other time slots throughout the show.

Appreciate the kind words! Come by tomorrow, I am also spinning tomorrow (Wednesday), instead of Thursday.
