I know what you mean by not classifying the OP as DJ's although I do disagree, simply b/c they started out DJing, then made it an act.
But incorporating those techniques (not in a show format, per say) is turntablism, and many DJs do it. My point is that it is a highly found skill in some of the best DJs that perform for all types of events with very good pay. It's a liked skill by more than you think, and people/companies you might be surpised from.
Knowing how to incorporate these skills in a live mix for a dance crowd or not is the key. It's a balance, and there is a big difference between an amateur scratch DJ and not. The ones doing it well, where you are not really noticing it b'c of how good it is, are getting the $$$$
