DJ Expo 2018 - August 13-16

Ah... big difference. Mac updates when you tell it to, not when it wants to. Also, you don't have to disable wifi to use a MAC.

Just wondering why all vendors use MACS at the shows.

I disable ALL WiFi - Mac, PC or other.

Again... You’re not really talking Macs versus PCs, You’re talking OS X versus Windows. You can easily buy a very powerful and affordable PC and run Windows 7, on which you can turn off updates.

UnFixed that for ya. ;)

For the record - I still have a Sony Vaio (circa 2004) running WinXP that can still fill in when needed. It can't run Serato but it is completely dependable. There's also a MacBook Pro Intel Core Duo on Snow Leopard and running Serato Itch that still works fine.

Mac's aren't better, you say and then you go onto say why Mac's really ARE better? Interesting. Ironically, that is exactly why I went with Apple. Haven't looked back.

I am saying, it's not necessary for DJing, b/c yes, Macs are better in every which way. I only found out b/c I was forced to make the switch.

One thing I didn't realize until I started using OSX instead of Windows is that the programming in the OS "to go to sleep" is much different on Windows.

On a Mac, it is instant when you lift the lid. No waiting, immediate access. I can't tell you how frustrated i get when I use a friends PC and have to wait...

camarofleet, you are dead wrong with warranty, and that they won't help you after one year.

It's quite the opposite, as I experienced.

Apple does not charge for OS related issues. I have spent hours on the phone with Apple over the years (on a 7 year old computer) Microsoft tried to charge me per hour.

I just scrolled past all this MAC vs PC shit... trying to find info on the reason this thread was started.

Yep... we hijacked the thread with this SAME debate we’ve had several times before.[emoji1]... I thought about not responding to it, or asking the mods to move the Mac/PC debate to another thread, but... I responded anyway.[emoji1] Does that make me a bad person?[emoji1]

All my threads get hijacked .. it is what it is ..

I just made an observation (about the DJ Expo) and asked a question.

I just never see any (PC's) being used at DJ Shows or anywhere except for mobile use. I was PC for YEARS and then kept having driver problems and tried Mac. Again, I have always said to use the best tool that works for you. It's funny how people (who use PC) ALWAYS mention that Macs are overpriced... so were my HK speakers but they were still awesome. Not sure why that is always mentioned.

I think the mods should break it out into different sections. PC versus Mac, Vinyl versus CDs, sync button versus no sync button and finally VHS versus Beta for good measure.

Maybe better for YOU that doesn't make it better for ALL

Sometimes you're the hijacker sometimes you're the Hijackee ;) It would be odd to not see a thread hijacked around here :)

I haven't had a driver issue since Win ME.....

I don't believe Macs are overpriced but I do believe they are way more than you need for the job. Like you said whatever works for you is the best option

Apple does not charge for OS related issues. I have spent hours on the phone with Apple over the years (on a 7 year old computer) Microsoft tried to charge me per hour.

Software issues I'm sure they support. Hardware issues - I have a bill on my desk proving otherwise...

The trackpad went out (1 year old Macbook Air). I knew what was wrong - and it looked clear cut to be a manufacturing defect to me. Apple wouldn't diagnose it without checking in the computer requiring me to wipe it, pay like $150 and be without it for a week.

I took it to an authorized service center that specializes in corporate repairs and they fixed it overnight for $130. They checked and it was not covered by Warranty as I did not purchase Apple Care.

This is the third Macbook I've had to pay for repairs on...

OS related issues - I'm sure they don't charge - but I can also solve those and run diagnostics on my own without having to make an appointment, drive to the Geek bar and wait all afternoon.

I've experienced the same - and if you need business systems help it's even worse.

It's kind of hard for MS to charge for hardware support when they don't make anything (aside from the Surface) - and on that front, have you tried getting hardware support on a Surface after 1 year? We have - and you'll pay for it unless you have the MS version of Apple Care.

I hear you on the failed hardware, and that really sucks that that happened after only 1 year. Ouch!

Not sure why you think you needed to wipe it. I backup religiously (as in scheduled at 2 AM every night), just in case something went totally wrong.

They don't charge you to diagnose it, EVEN IF YOU CHOOSE NOT TO HAVE IT FIXED THERE. You don't see Microsoft doing that!!!

I have taken advantage of this in my iMac. They spent hours trying to figure out an issue and finally told me that it ended up being the Fusion HD. I replaced it myselfs. Thanks for the FREE diagnostics, ha. It's awesome in some cases :)

OS issues are all done via the phone. You don't need to go in.

Some corporate environments require you to wipe a device before it's sent in for repair or let go of - proprietary / protected data.
