Difference between PRX-518s and EON-518s subwoofers?

Their specs look nearly identical, on paper.

Both have an 18" woofer and a 500watt (8 ohm) Crown Amp (class D) with 1000 watts of peak power.

Both have nearly identical frequency response and SPL levels.

I do see a weight difference -- 79 pounds for the PRX sub and only 65 pounds for the EON sub.

Is the cabinet size changed, or the materials cheaper or lighter in the cab?

Pictures of the two units seem like they're identical but for cosmetics.

I didn't know the EON employed a digital amp like the PRX line.... hmmmm.

I could check with my contacts at the Crown plant here in Elkhart and see if they know what the major differences are.... but, Ben would probably be quicker.

I can't talk about both, but I own the PRX and love it! I don't push it at all though...just use it for receptions and have to keep it turned WAY down or it'll rattle the china :sqwink:

The Eons use Neodymium (sp?) woofers so that's probably some of the weight diff. Since it's a different woofer the cabinet may have some dimension differences to accommodate for the properties of each.

The material they*used is on the new EON is a composite copolymer material (a hard plastic for lighter weight). The PRX uses a heavier Duraflex finish which is supposed to be a little more "heavy-duty". They use different LF drivers. The price is lower on EONs, and*the EON is not as deep. The PRX had a little more low end depth and definition*to it. Hope this helps.

Me and a friend blew up the dispaly eon at GC in about 2 minutes.

Danity Cane - Showstopper will kill most subs.

They didn't let me try to blow up a PRX when those came out, there was a different pro sound manager. Now before I buy anything I want to see how long it takes to blow up.

I'm surprised the GC hasn't gotten a Restraining Order on Cam (no coming within 50 feet of the stores!!! LOL)
