My boss had downloaded an update from windows for his Dell laptop and when he got home it wouldn't restart.

He called Dell tech support and they had him insert the restore DVD which formated his hard drive and re-installed the OP Sys. The problem is the technition failed to mention that this would wipe out all of his data... (of course we are thinking d'uh of course, but him not being a computer geek went along for the ride).

So, I get his freshly restored laptop and finish the job and he contacts Dell to chew some ass.... they offer to assist in recovering the lost files.

Turns out that from the same makers of cclean they also make a program called Recuva. Found at www.recuva.com This program is suppose to be able to recover files even after a hard drive re-format...

We'll see.... it's still working on the computer searching for deleted files... 40 minutes estimated to completion...

I like my Windows Home Server -- best $300 I ever spent. Backs up every machine on premises every night, all by its little bitty self :sqcool: :sqbiggrin:

Then it backs itself up to a fireproof/waterproof hard drive :)

Smartass:sqerr::sqerr: NO AUTOPSY FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!! :sqlaugh::rofl::sqlaugh::rofl::sqlaugh:
:sqwink::sqwink::sqwink:

You should have no problem recovering the info when you use the Dell rescue CDs they write over the OS and leave the info deep on the drive. Check the drive you will see how much is used that's how I found out.

Do a search for a file that was there before the reinstall it will pop up

lol well thats why now days I do it a certain way

i create a c: drive 40gb partition just for the OS

the rest i create for the my documents directory in
so anything happens to the os i ghost it back from a stored directory on the d: or e: drive of the second partition on a laptop

well i can explain more but thats where a computer geek has his secrets...

I never ever store the my documents now where the operating system is anymore!

just in case anything happends
