So, what the hell are you doing in Mary Land? Shouldn't you be invading some Arab country or something... :sqlaugh:

It is a long story best told over a beer or two.

The short version:

I do think of myself as an Israelite because by linage I am of the House of Israel; the ten tribes that did not return to the land of Israel after Babylonian captivity. These tribes were held in an area between the Black and Caspian Seas and, when released, migrated through the Caucasus Mountains into Europe, Britain, and finally the Americas.

Specifically I am of Celto-Saxon linage. Celto = Celtic = Irish. Saxon = German. I am 1/4 Irish and 3/4 German. On my father's side it is 100% German and on my mother's side it is German-Irish.

Sh_t, it took me two beers just to read the short version... :sqlaugh:

I'm 100% American. My religion consists of what beer is on sale on a particular day :)

I'm an atheist, but I've done many Christian gatherings/parties. I have one HECK of a great Christian music library and I'm not afraid to use it! See, unlike most of the churched people, I have no compulsion to try to convince everyone else to think like me. If you ask me about why I believe (or, more accurately, DON'T believe) what I do, I'll be happy to tell you. Otherwise I'm just happy to have a job.

As for Catholic hospitals, if they don't want to address some things they find distasteful, then they shouldn't have a maternity ward that deals with reproduction AT ALL. Science and religion don't mix, were never intended to mix and can't be forced to mix. Not all patients adhere to Catholicism, and to reject them would be discrimination. Yet to insist that they follow Catholic dogma is ALSO discrimination!

Just my two pennies...

A couple of things from the original article stood out to me:

The judges continued, “The act of photographing a same-sex ceremony does not express any opinions regarding same-sex commitments, or disseminate a personal message about such ceremonies.”

They called the state requirement “a neutral regulation of commercial conduct” and said that it does not “infringe upon freedom of speech or compel unwanted expression.”

Emphasis mine.

In this case, I tend to agree with the judges ruling. I don't think that photographing an event implies an endorsement.

I do think there is a difference in the case of a DJ....or more specifically an MC. To me, the MC role does imply some kind of "endorsement" of the event....at least I would have a REALLY hard time MC'ing and event that I found to be "wrong" or "immoral". I like to think that I am professional enough to set aside my personal beliefs and give my best performance for any client....but I am not completely clear that I could.

Does the act of being the "MC" express some opinion about an event? At what point would "things" cross the line for you?

1) Renting the couple equipment, and setting it up, but not being present for the event? (Assuming that you rent gear normally.)
2) Being the DJ...but NOT speaking on the mic at all....assume the couple had someone else who did ALL the MC'ing? (Assuming that you would do such a thing normally.)
3) Performing as both the DJ and the MC (Assuming that you would do such a thing normally)

The judges suggested the interesting scenario of the photographer accepting the job, and vocally condemning the women while taking pictures. “The owners are free to express their religious beliefs and tell Willock or anyone else what they think about same-sex relationships and same-sex ceremonies,” they said.

Now I wonder what kind of lawsuit the couple would have filed in that case....??? (And I wonder what would have happened if someone had given the photographer a mic?)
