Could DJs operate like Medical facilities, and send bills after service?

Yet, there's still no business plan... things that make you go hmmmmm...

As a DJ, could we work and provide services without the customer knowing the costs, then just send them a ridiculous bill 2 months later in the mail expecting them to pay it?

$362 is a steal if that includes the X-Ray Lab.

This is really two questions not one.

First: Can we provide services without the customer knowing the cost and then just send them a bill after?

Yes.

Second: Can you send them a ridiculous bill and expect them to pay it?

No.

The word 'ridiculous' is self explanatory.

You don't have that opportunity with a first time prospect and if you do - keep in mind that 'ridiculous' is anything that disrespects basic sensibilities. For example, most people would expect to pay a premium for an emergency response but, if the charge were two or three times your listed prices, perhaps even more than just 50% of the typical base - it would be deceptive not to disclose that up front and I expect people would resist paying you.

Regular and repeat clients with flexible budgets and variable needs who trust your ability to handle a project can develop confidence in your ability to properly scope and budget for their needs. These are clients who will ask you to do something because they need it done and trust you to do it well and price it right. Next week I have an event that is in it's 12th consecutive year. We have never discussed an actual price. I will bill them when it's over and I expect they understand based on prior experience that it will end up somewhere between $14,000 and $20,000. They will pay it without question.
