Copying CD+G files to a DVD

I'm always thinking(don't laugh). So I get this idea. I know it's not a new idea, but, what about burning regular CD+G files to a DVD and just carry a few DVDs around instead of hundreds of regular Karaoke CDs?

Now I'm not talking about special software like from Powerkaraoke. I'm just talking about copying two files per track, (1) MP3 file and (1) CDG file, just like what you have on your PC when you rip a standard Karaoke disk with audiograbber.

Anyone try what I'm asking? Am I off track, do you need special software to do this?

I would play the DVD in my DVD/Karaoke machine that plays standard Karaoke disks, DVDs, MP3s, audio CDs, CDRWs, DIVX, MPEG files etc. or in my PC with Karaoke hosting software. This way if my computer takes a dump I'll have a backup system that can be plugged in within seconds OR instead of using the computer to host, I could use my Karaoke machine and a few DVDs instead of carrying hundreds of CDs around. Less flipping disks in and out too.
 
While what you want to do is not impossible it would still require a computer for playback....

As far as I know there are no CDG/DVD players that will play the dual file system.... sure some will play the mp3 but the graphic wont display....

Now as far as burning a cdg to dvd for playback I don't know never tried and certainly at the cost of one DVD it couldn't hurt to try... but you would need a program like Power CDG Burner to burn back to a DVD disc... but again I don't know if this will even work...

I say give it a shot.... let us know if it works for you.

Actually I might give it a try since I have some spare DVD-R and Power CDG Burner but at the moment I don't have a CDG/DVD player so I wont be able to test properly but at least I'll know if the burn is possible.
 
Ok well at least I know Power CDG Burner does not support burn to DVD-R I kept getting length to long... even after I pared my list down to only 12 tracks..... I should have been able to get about 120 mins of music onto one dvd but I couldn't even burn 48 mins.... now as soon as I put a CDR in the drive no problem as long as I don't exceed 80 mins....

Without doing much research I'm guessing there is probably no utilities out there to burn back to DVD as an Audio CDG.... about the only way I see it working is if you can find a utility for creating SCDG's.

That said... you could still store your mp3+g files on DVD I've done that no problem and you can fit apporx 9-10 discs worth of music to one DVD 4.7gb disc.... but, I don't know of any stand alone players out side of using a computer that will play these... your best bet would probably be an external hard drive and a spare computer...
 
No matter what kind of system you're on you should always keep your originals on hand. Even if you don't use them.

That RJTech karaoke player i reviewed here can play mp3+g off a DVDR.
 
I have no problem carrying my original disks with me in the car, I just don't want to carry them in with me if I'm not using them. I just bought 3 CAVS disks that have over 2500 songs total(2 Pioneer and 1 Magic Tracks) , but I want them converted into a more standard format that can be played in other machines or on my computer, not just in a CAVS player OR I want to be able to copy them onto a DVD that I can play in my DVD Karaoke player.

Just curious toqer, how much for that RJTech machine? If you don't want to announce it publicly you can send me a PM.

Works just like making a simple mp3 cd....

The key is don't use directories at all.... most players wont recognize a mp3 disc that is divided into directories....

I'm curious about this player now and wonder if he's tried to play a mp3+g file on it... i suppose that if it can play the file along with the graphic file that it wouldn't matter what medium it is played from... (ie usb memory stick, cdr, dvd-r or other)

While I have no idea about doing the conversion, playback really shouldn't be a problem. Most of the newer players I run into will playDVD, S-VCD, MPEG-4, MP3, Video CD, CD+G, HDCD, JPEG, and every other stinkin' format you can think of. This is especially true, believe it or not, of the less expensive
players like Mixonic, Performers' Choice, etc... I actually have a Mixonic backup and have played DVD Karaoke discs (Sybersound, aka Party Tyme) discs that my patrons have handed me...

The conversion is another story. I wouldn't mind any knowledge that anyone's willing to share........

Other than what Toqer has said about the R Tech machine I know of no other CDG/DVD player out there that will play MP3+G sure many will play the mp3 portion.... but the cdg file?

It's very easy to put your files on DVD-R but another thing for it to play in a device other than a computer with a .cdg file decoder.... that's where the problem is...

Toqer could you elaborate on that machine... have you tried to play a mp3+g file set... and if so from what media?
 
So I guess what the powerkaraoke DVD software does is take the mp3 file and the CDG file and combine them together into a video file of some sort. I'm still researching all of this. I haven't tried burning any DVDs yet. Worst case scenario, I'll buy the powerkaraoke program. It's about $50 or $60. Someone should invite them to come over here and hang out. They participate at Karaokescene.

I have a mixsonic player like Joe mentions that I got off ebay a few months ago and it works fine. It plays MP4, MP3, standard Karaoke disks, MPEG, DIVX, CDRW, CDR, audio CDs, DVD movies etc. It has an RGB out for an LCD or CRT monitor and it also has composite video out. I don't plan on using a TV, either a CRT computer monitor or an LCD-more likely an LCD because they're smaller, lighter and easier to carry and they are easier to put on a stand.

You can use the mixsonic as a Karaoke player or as a DVD player to watch movies at home. For Karaoke it has dual 1/4" mic inputs on the front panel along with pitch control buttons, echo control knob and track selection buttons and it also comes with a remote control. About $70 including shipping.

I've barely used it because I'm trying to learn and perfect computer Karaoke. It's more of a backup for me just in case I have a problem with my computer because the show MUST go on.
 
Best way to test a player is to run to the K-apart Store and spend 6-7 bucks for a Sybersound karaoke DVD. and try it. Joker's right in that many players ( especially higher end and older) won't work. So far, I've only been lucky with the less expensive backups that I've mentioned. Didn't work on the RSQ Triple or my older JVC double.
