I'll look for it and maybe that came out wrong but let me find it:

What I'm trying to say is that the Mac GUI is developed around the hardware. Windows isn't. The windows GUI is developed around the software.

Some reading for you all:

http://www.sensomatic.com/chz/gui/history.html

Edit: and if you do the research, you'll see that that statement is correct. The Mac GUI is developed around the hardware. They own it, they control it, they build it. Windows is not. They release portions of it to whatever vendor and they develop the code for their HW. Windows is all about the SW and always has been. Mac has for the most part, always been GUI.

Dude, that was 20 some years ago... :sqlaugh:

While I agree that Apple designs their OS to work with certain hardware that they produce (actually China produces), Windows can work on virtually anything, and works just as well, and better in many cases.

Since MS went to the new designs of renderers and hardware driver models (many years ago), I think they win the ballgame.

The reasons people buy Apple, are thus:

a) To impress their friends, who also drive Subarus, Volvos and Beemers.
b) Because they have no clue how to work a real computer.
c) It fits in their man purse.
d) They love Steve Jobs (no longer a factor).
e) They come in great packaging.

I have both -- and I can find no good reason to use the Mac, other then the 5 above -- makes a nice paperweight, albeit an expensive one... ;)

And therein lies Windows problems. Windows can work on virtually anything - and I don't think 'better' is the word you were looking for. I have yet to find that one come true.

If I made an engine that fit every car, there would be lots of problems. There is no one size fits all. Add in to that, ALL the different places where all the parts come from and now I have no control over my engine.

Now if I make an engine for one car and I make everything on that engine - bet y'er bottom dollar it'll work and it'll work well.

The registry is horrible - as is the hive (for normal users). You know why MS systems get thrown out every 2 - 3 years, cuz the frickin' users. If they had an apple (or other system that managed the system and sw better) - half of the problems would go away. Add on all the calls to India and all the 'thats not our problem' crap and you eventually give up on it.

Ricky, I know y'er an MS guy and you develop under MS but c'mon. There's a reason most graphics / newspaper / animation / movie shops use a Mac to this day.

I use both too and my PC's are great machines as well - but I don't clutter 'em with crap. My Windows machine was also an expensive one and not a cheapie.

Yeah -- because most of the people doing that sort of work don't have the intelligence to use a real OS, and half of those are fags who like to impress their faggy friends -- I think this image pretty much sums it up... yorofl:

DO NOT use a sony vaio...mine is glitchy as hell and skips alot even though it supposedly has an amazing processor (i5 core or something like that). My (much crappier) HP does a way better job at handling DJ software and hardware than the "specialty" vaio.

i bet you lot run a heap of background apps too
thats why it slows and you cant use it properly

Hank thats all thats needed - none of this other crap to fill it up with!!

Ok, Tigger, you are my guy and all.... but the whole statement about the GUI being built around the hardware went out the window when they started using Intel chips/Motherboards. They design for hardware just as much as Microsoft. LESS actually, because MS has to account for video cards, something that Macs can't even use. But you're right that macs write the GUI around the ONE video card they use.
So that MYTH that Macs are superior in all things audio and video is complete hogwash. There is no way that any mac is going to outdo my dual Radeon HD 5870's, and any sound card a mac can get, a PC can get, so there goes that one too. After you debunk that one, everyone says "it's not the hardware, its how the OS handles it" and I say phooey. Yes, phooey. Maybe 10-15 years ago, sure. But now that they are using the same processors, Windows has the edge. I am not even sure you can use the 6 and 8-core processors on the Mac, can you? Beyond that, you can't use AMD processors on a Mac, so that takes out a whole range of processors that only a PC can use. And don't go all "Mac Pro" on me, we are not talking Servers, but Personal Computers.
Don't get me wrong, I don't HATE Macs at all. I just hate the silly myths and the whole "Mac is superior" thing. I am not a Windows fanboy either, I prefer Ubuntu actually. Hell, even Chromium if I had a netbook! But it's the whole superiority complex that really bothers me. It's the same reason I defend Denon to the Pio-Heads when they claim that CDJ's are so vastly superior to the DN-S series, yet they can never come up with any actual reasons WHY. Same with Virtual DJ.... I have been having to defend THAT a lot lately since DJing is going into the controller realm really heavily now. Everyone is still so stuck on Serato that they automatically start hating on VDJ, yet they can never come up with an actual reason why Serato is better. I can come up with at least 5 reasons why VDJ beats the pants off SSL, but that's another debate :)
Anyway, like I said.... I don't deny that Macs are nice. They look nice, but so can a PC. They are stable, but so is Windows (mine has yet to have any problems... Win7 x64). They are efficent, but so is a PC.
Really, a Mac is actually just a PC that can't upgrade really easily (or at all in the case of video), with a different OS. Parts is parts is parts.

If Ubuntu could run most of my games and programs I would switch to that in a second, but alas... tis not to be. And don't say that Mac OSX is just like it, because it isn't. I have it on my USB drive just to boot into it from time to time, but in order for me to use it as my main OS it needs to be able to do what I need it to do audio-wise. I always check and see if they have any new audio editing software, but so far the best I have seen is Audacity.... which is great, but I need something more professional, as well as a Multi-Track recorder. I would also need FL Studio, or a program JUST like it lol.

Dang.... look at me rambling again. You guys ever notice how LONG my posts are when I talk about a specific subject? It's like I have to describe every aspect of my opinion. I don't know why I do this whole rambling on thing.

In current general terms there is no difference between current mac & PC hardware. What's a hardware gui?

Except that whole glaring "I can't upgrade my video card or use an AMD processor or motherboard" thing.

And a hardware GUI is where they design the "Graphical User Interface" around the hardware. Since Apple used to use and manufacture ALL it's own hardware (processor, motherboard, etc) they could write the OS to take advantage of specific functions and not have to make it a "works with everything" type of blanket software. It worked for that hardware and that hardware alone. So it was slightly more efficient at running processes and thus had better ram timings, etc. Bootups and shutdowns were faster, and it was slightly more secure as well, since it knew it's hardware intimately.
As I said in my previous post, that all changed when they started using Intel. Now they have to write for hardware that can change vs. hardware that never could. So they have to generalize it somewhat, which took away all those benefits I mentioned.

Jynxxy, when's the last time you actually saw MS design / account for anything? The vendors account for it all (aside from VGA / SVGA).

Its alright... go take a nap.... a lllllooooonnngggg one, the feeling would soon go away. If that does not work, there is always medication. LOL
We have a resident Doctor in Mexico who will give you something much better than Propofol . lol

The first machine I tested on was a P1 166. The first machine I took on a Gig was a P2 300, and the first machine I actually gigged with on a regular basis was an AMD K62-500. I recon anything beyond that with a decent soundcard should do the trick
