Calculating a Hybrid Bridge Tied Load

so you want a setup such as this so you it is at its best just before clipping? Im unsure of what setup you would want to consider such a setup. Just because you can. Doesnt show me useful or right. We once unknowingly ran 20 ceiling speakers in our office space to each room running off one amplifier without any math it sounded fine as a PA but horrible for music unless at a very low volume. Situations such as this has caused me to ask the pro's. However it seems like at the DMV if I were to ask it might be 20 different answers for any given question. I would also have to be very careful to explain the exact goal I was hoping to gain otherwise I might get 20 guys arguing over how to do it. Good thing Im only a DJ having to answer amongst the less knowledgeable, less skilled set.
 
I've never ran the setup, I've just read about it and know it can be done.

They (dynacord) say I can run 4 subs and 4 mains off each of my XA-4000 amps also, but I'm not gonna do it. I'm running 3 subs and 2 mains and I think it's running out of gas when I push it hard now, but I think I did notice it sounds a little better if I run each amp on it's own circuit rather than both amps off of a single one, seems to not run out of gas so quickly.

This setup was used with stacks for school dances field parties ect. when I was running a large DTH setup and before I had more amps than I had any need for.

I ran this setup all the time without any failures of any type, no it did not need to be ran to clip for good sound (BTW every system is at it's best just below clip)!
 
According to the site, it's primarily designed to be used when flying speakers using near-field and far-field monitors. To compensate, you use the 2 speakers with a -6dB drop for the near field while driving the other for far field without having to run seperate gains or seperate amps.

And in the 'typical' setup, you're better off running 2 speakers instead of three because you effectively loose overall volume by doing this.

In other words, just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD.
 
Well I was using stacks which put the upper units (+6DB) at 15+ feet from the floor (or ground) and the purpose was far field coverage (which it did very well)!

Not only could I do it, I should have done it, and I did it! And it worked very well when I was doing it!

Steve so why would you alter your standards and buy more amps than you have a need for other than backup? Would it be fair to say you did it cause what you were doing in this configuration might bite you in the arse so why push the limits? As it seems you didnt buy more Amps than needed merely as backups.
 
Jon, it wasn't about altering standards it was about making what I had work at the time!

I was running each of four 218 subs on a single bridged CS800C, two 215 midbass each on a bridged CS800C with 6 mains running on a bridged Hybrid setup using two CS1200s as I got more amps I reduced the loads to the amps by adding more amps to fewer speakers.

Eventually I ended up with enough amps to produce 20,000 watts to that system, (was it needed? probably not but I had it available if it were to be needed), but until I added and upgraded my amps i had to make do with what I had.

The setup I have described here was suggested not by another DJ and not by other sound men but by the manufacturers of the gear I was using and that pretty much says it all!
 
I'm in complete agreement with Thunder in regards to this thread, minus the arrogance.:sqlaugh: That configuration puts less stress on an amp than one being driven into a bridged 4 ohm load.
