Randy,
Allow me to share something with you. Most Trade Shows share the same objectives, namely Product/Brand awareness, Sales at the Show (New Customers) and Leads for Potential Customers after the Show.
Lots of companies make more business
after the Show. When a visitor to your Booth signs up for any Prize/Free Drawing, or Contact List, they would have to be very naive not to know that someone may contact them at a later date. There is nothing wrong with calling someone after the show to do a follow up and further qualify that person as a prospect for your business. This is NOT a Cold Call (Like picking a name out of a Telephone Book).
Going to a Show and spending money to do a display hoping someone would like what you have to offer, is nothing less than order taking. One has to be proactive and aggressive to get the new business. That does not mean one has to be obnoxious!
If one feels that they don't have the necessary drive to approach people with the intent of making a sale/booking, then one should hire a Sales person to go with them to the show and pay that person a Commission to get sales for you at the show and from the leads after the show. You will get more mileage for your $$$$$ that way.
