Getting ready for the first Bridal Show of the season.

Any suggestions? (Always looking for something new.)

What do must people take? Speakers? Lights? Of course business cards.

Most DJ's at our bridal shows bring a small sound system and some lights.
More recently, some are NOT bringing them, as a way to appear "different" from all the others. Also, some DJ's are realizing that sound and lights at a bridal show are too distracting. It makes it harder to talk with potential clients, and in some cases, really pi**es off the people in the next booth... and they are asked to tone it down.
Best advice is to have a video of some of your events, on a TV in the booth. It offers the same effect as having a sound system and lights, but it is not as "in your face".
Also, most vendors will put their table at the front of the booth...but I've found it better to not have a "barrier" between you and the brides. Put the table on the side or in the back of the booth, and open it up so brides can "walk in" and talk to you.
I would also offer a "discount" to anyone who books you thru the show...as long as they book it within a certain amount of time.
And if it is NOT offered by the people putting on the bridal show, I would ask for a list of brides, so you can contact them afterwards.

hope it goes well!

You don't necessarily have to bring gear.

Your primary purpose at a Bridal Show is to meet Potential Clients.

Bring a Photo Album with Pictures or have a TV and laptop with a slide show of past events and pictures of your gear.

Do not sit behind a table it creates a barrier.

Have lots of Business cards, Flyers, Brochures. Give these cards out by hand, don't just let them sit there to be taken.

Have a Free Drawing for a Gift certificate from a Store or something. On the Drawing Slip, make sure you have Name, Address, E-mail, Phone Number, Date of Wedding, etc and any pertinent info that will help you to qualify that potential Client. STATE THAT ALL FIELDS BE FILLED OUT FOR ENTRY.

Follow up on those leads within a week after the show.

Dress in a nice suit or Sports Coat. Don't use a Tux because you do not want to intimidate anyone as being a High Priced DJ.

You are there to get Appointments not to sell. However, once in awhile you may have someone who IS there to make a decision that day. Have a discount available for those who sign up that day or within a week. Have your Agreement/Contract forms with you, just in case.
DO NOT POST A PRICE SHEET. Give the potential Client a chance to ask and remember before answering ask questions first.

For Example.
Prospect: What do you charge?
You: Help me so I can help you. How many people will be attending? How many hours will be my performance? Is this reception only or reception and ceremony? ETC ETC

I hope this helps.

Make sure you girly up your booth...you're trying to appeal to future Brides. A nice arrangement of flowers is always nice and not that expensive.

Yep, get the florist to lend you an arrangement in exchange for having their business card attached to the arrangement. Light a couple of scented candles.

I am thinking about doing my first one. If I do I will take lots of truss, black and white fabric, LED lights, projector and screen, as well as the basic stuff. I am contemplating buying one of those truss tables.

In your case Mike, Lighting Demo at your show may work since its not sound and won't cause distraction for the other Vendors (They sometimes will complain which means you may have to turn it down or off) Also, be aware that they may only provide you with one extension cord outlet so wiring is critical. I'd use a video of a light show and photos.

Yeah I planned on having a video running on my laptop and then an example of video/slide shows running on the screen. In addition I thought about 2 other projectors showing how I use projectors as lighting instruments to light a dance floor.

Here is what I did:

1. Uplighting, and trusses
2. No big speakers
3. Slideshow/Powerpoint with great black and white wedding pics
4. Mellow music on the pc speakers
5. A smile, and some cards....and some contracts!

Worked for me!
