Never cared for the little AA ELS Go8BT speakers I bought, so I'm trying another option. Bought just 1 (will buy a 2nd if it's decent) of the new Alto Transport 12 speakers.

Got it for $350 shipped .. should be here the end of next week. I'll let you all know if it's decent or a piece of s**t.

Future expansion for a dual wireless maybe?

Yea, I assume that will be a future option .. though not sure it can be added. These were just released in the past month, so time will tell if there is a body pack version as well at some point. It'll be cool if I can get one of my bodypack transmitters to work with it and make them "wireless" speakers.
 
Steve, that looks really, really good. I normally like headset/lav mics but for a situation where there's no power I think it'll be easy to sell the bride that "this is what we have for remote usage so your preacher's going to have to use a hand-held." If it's really that lightweight and with that long of a battery life, I can see a lot of uses for that box.

I hope to give it a workout when I get back from my trip down to Raleigh next week.
 
Just found a note on the Alto website that shows the UHF range of the unit as 606-640 MHz .. so it doesn't appear it will work with the AT system (655-680 MHz).

The bane of the lower end products .. they walk that line between "Average Pro" and "Average Joe". Ion was a product line on the other side .. mostly "Joe" that tried to move upstream with little effect.

Absolutely .. and for other informal gatherings. I do small, short events at times for both the school system and the Lion's Club (I'm a member) and if this works, it would make some of those simple speaking events that have very simple music needs, a lot easier.

My cocktail hour at 95% of the weddings that I have done over the past 20 months or so have turned into me providing a single battery powered speaker on a stand, and plugging a microphone into it (usually wired) and me connecting my phone via bluetooth to play a pre set cocktail hour playlist. I just stop by the set up every 10 minutes or so to check up on it. I think I did one wedding in the last 2 years where I set up a larger set up and set up a table with my laptop and mixer connected.
 
Same for me. Instead of Bluetooth, I carry around 3 USB sticks that have different cocktail hour music on them ( classic, R&B, country) and depending on the crowd, use that list. For some reason, I don't trust Bluetooth as it doesn't sound as good to me and I am terrified of one of my phone calls going into the speaker. Battery powered speakers are a godsend.

I've never needed to use it, but my iPhone has several thousand songs stored in case I ever needed it.

If I used Bluetooth or with a cord, I'd put it on airplane mode so no call would ever get through

My wife said it arrived today .. I'll be home Friday morning, so I'll let you all know what it looks and sounds like this weekend.
