Was having some cocktails with friends and was playing some music through an s1 pro+ from my iPad via Bluetooth

I reached into my bag to loan someone a charging cable and the music stopped. Look at the connection on the iPad and still says connected to s1 pro+

Song is playing on iPad but no sound. Then I faintly hear the music. Here, I must have bumped my bose headphones when I reached into my bag, and the headphones turned on and took over the Bluetooth signal.
To make matters worse, simply turning off the headphones didn’t fix it. While it still said connected to the s1 pro, I was getting no sound. I had to turn off bluetooth, turn it back on, forget device and then hold the Bluetooth button on the s1 pro to reconnect to get sound again
Just another reminder that Bluetooth isn’t ready for prim time.

Not sure who’s at fault here. Bose, Apple, Bluetooth group, me?😁

But do know Bose stuff in the past liked to ”auto connect”, thinking that this is some kind of convenience. I always found it annoying.

Let's blame Bose and call it a day ;)

Maybe I'm a bit of a luddite but I just don't trust Bluetooth especially for something mission critical

Sounds like the iPad is at fault. With a lack of discreet protected device identifiers it pairs on the basis of proximity and sequence. (Your headphones step ahead in the line, and it's the iPad that plays the role of air traffic controller.) The iPad assumed you were changing your listening space. Apple touts it's products as "smart devices" meaning the device assumed that as soon as the headphones appeared - you were on the move.
