I'll be playing back in the same bar that i had my retirement party this Thursday. My friend has a 50th wedding anniversary to do and i'll be covering the bar for him that night. 8:30-1:00 is my time to play. It's classic soul night. The DJ is expected to play oldies that night. Depending on the crowd that comes in the DJ might have to play some club music.
My friend had to switch up this past Thursday because of the crowd that was in there. He started off with classic soul and at the end had to play club music. My friend called me on Thursday telling me he forgot he had this party to do this Thursday. He called on me because he knows i'll get the job done right and the bar knows me anyway.
I really got burnt out from playing in a bar/club. Lot of crazy places around here. Some are some rough places to play at. They have tack heads coming in the place and can lead to trouble. Long story short my partner was playing in this bar and some guys got into a beef with a guy in the bar. 5 minutes later they came back in the bar with a gun and shot the guy in the back of the head killing him. True story.
A friend of mine was in a bar where this DJ was playing. Nobody was dancing and she gave the DJ my CD and the crowd went nuts. The DJ wanted my CD. The owner decided if i could make him 1k on a Saturday night he would pay me $250.00. That was many years ago. I never even got to meet up with the owner. She told me one night someone came in and robbed the bar. Shot the bartender and went to take the DJ's equipment. He was crazy trying to fight them for the equipment. God said that place was not for me.
So when i have the date open and i can play in this bar i won't hesitate to go there and play. I know for some of you here that's not that big a deal because it's just a bar but for me i like the place and i get to make some money on a Thursday where normally i wouldn't be making any money at all DJing. It will be fun and i get to make $150.00 on night that I'm usually off. If i could find a bar like this place to play in each week i would jump at it! This bar is a friendly peaceful place. I don't worry about patrons coming in the place looking to fight or carrying in weapons.
