I just read (yes I know, but we here on Maui get our mail later than others, if at all) his "Fear Not The iPod" artical and I agree fully with what he wrote...
If a DJ has to spend his his time speaking of the virtures of hiring a professional DJ, he or she is only communicating to the general public one person at a time. If an association were to actually promote our virtues to the general public, the public would eventually weed out the non-professional DJs and other essentially harmful music providers
At the last Expo, I was talking to one of the upper guys of one of the assocations, I won't name names, and I'm pretty sure that I brought this up to him. Advertizing to the GP. If Name, ADJA or whoever, really wanted to help out the DJ industry, IMHO, they would somehow get it together to place ads in in national magazines, not just a bride mag, but one like Time, or Newsweek.
I'm sure it would cost and I am not the guy who would know "how" to do it. But educating the PUBLIC is what we need to do.
Maybe even a TV spot late at night. Yes I am sure these would be expencive, getting the message out, how to word it would be hard.
But untill the general public learns about what it is and takes to hire a good DJ, we will nnever get the respect that we are due.
Maybe for this ONE project NAME and ADJA could work together on something that would make everyone proud and highlight our industry.
Or I could just need another Mai Tai and chillax....
