At your karaoke shows, what are some of the stupidest things you have seen people do?

Lately for me people can't get the mic out of the mic holder on my TV stand. They try just about every way to get it out: sideways, the two hand pull sideways, the single hand lift just under the mic holder, (their hand hitting the mic holder as they lift) and the try to pull pull it down through the holder.

I lean over to them and say "just lift it straight out", I go over lift out the mic and hand it to them. D'OH!!!

As Bill Engvall would say: "Here's your sign".

I've had people ask if they can dance on my speakers. (At a few different parties.)

The one I like is when people ask you if you can "play something we can dance to", when the dance floor is full.

Put a sign on your stand that reads, "If you can't get the mic out of the holder, you can't sing." :sqlaugh:
 
No, some people aren't that stupid....most people are.
 
i normally ask the singer to "sound check" before starting their music...' just say "check-check" are the directions from me...i either get this stupified stare or a SCREAM from the top of their lungs...the funny part is, they normally TURN OFF the mic right after their sound check then give me that stupified stare again like; "how come there ain't no sound coming out of here"...STOP THE MUSIC!!...WALK AROUND TO THE MIC!!!...SWITCH IT BACK ON!!!...HERE'S YOUR SIGN!!!

abbey...i've had to actually PULL down college kids that climbed on the speakers to dance during RAVES...guess what, no more raves for this DJ...i prefer dealing with the STUPIFIED LOOKS!!!!

I run into the same thing with my wired mics. Also spinning them. The wireless mics have trouble making their way back to me, or don't bounce well...:sqmad:

How about telling all that slips and pens are in the front of the books, and people asking where these things are 5 minutes later?
 
Talk about stupid... it really irritates me when people tap on the mic head or blow into it and ask "Is this thing on?" They think it's cute but it really makes 'em look lame.

Flame is right. You wouldn't believe the number of speakers (or singers) who flip the Mute or Power switches on a wireless mic. It's especially aggravating when they're all the way at the far end of the room. They'll give ya that deer-in-the-headlights look as though it's your fault the mic isn't working.
 
How come everytime you hand someone a mic they turn it off? I now have mics with no switches. I control them from my mixer.

"Flame" funny how kids think, if they didn't pay for it they can destroy it. (lol)
 
They may be thinking they're turning it on. When I hand over the mic I'll give a brief tutorial ~ It's all ready to use. Hold it close to the lips when speaking.

Sometimes that helps, lol. :)

B. Take off your clothes and rub your genitals on them and sneak your slip in while they're distracted? (turn to page 322)

C. Start getting angry, shouting and carrying on while waving your fists violently in the air? (turn to page 221)
 
What I love is when you hand the mic to someone and they hold it down near their waist and look at you like why can't they hear me. I had one girl kept doing that, I would walk out and tell her to hold the mic close to her mouth, it would last about 5 seconds, and then down again to her waist, when she finished singing she cut down my system saying how crappy the mic works, funny everyone had no problem.

I've run into this quite a few times. I generally ask (on mic) if they really want whatever noise their bellybutton is making to be amplified. This generally gets a laugh, and they take the hint....

The reverse are those who must have missed dinner, and try to eat the microphone. Getting them to back off an inch or two is tougher.


Did I mention how much I hate SCREAMERS?


I want a copy of "Choose Your Own Karaoke Adventure"!
 
I suspect these folks get the idea from game show hosts they see on television. The hosts hold a mic at chest level.

What's not mentioned is the fact that the gameshow host mics are often props.
