Looking to go beyond just using laptop and mouse for weddings, perhaps something that will allow beat matching but is not overly expensive. Don't know to much about these things yet.

Thanks Dean

:sqbiggrin:Well there are tons of midi controllers out there my suggestion is to go and try some out and see which fits your needs. I just brought the American Audio DP2 went and tested it out and like it and brought it. You also might want to see what Dj software you want to use to see if it is compatible with the midi controller you want.

I don't know what DJ Software you are using. Check with Rick, this forum's Sponsor. He may have some answers for you, his product is called "Rockit". I use Traktor DJ Software (Laptop & Mouse) and you can Beatmatch with it manually or automatically in Sync mode.

I'm using Club DJ pro but would switch as it's an older version. I've been reading about the American Audio and looks interesting. There's not too many places to try gear where I am...Buffalo GC but they are fairly limited in what they have and most stuff isn't set up for trying.
Also wouldn't be opposed to ellimination laptop if the hardware was stable...I had a Cortex HDC1000 (B-stock) but sent back as it had issues, not sure if that was because it was b stock but I had two and sent them both back even though I really liked them.

I just got the American Audio Dp2 and it works good eventhough I have not used it for any gigs yet. Will be using it on October 30th for a wedding defenitely and sooner if I get any calls. Try the Dp2 out you might like it I sure did and it works with almost every Dj Software.

I personally don't see the need for an external MP3 controller. I can do everything within my software such as manually slow down, speed up, Slip Cue, Loop, reverse and sync. One less piece of gear to buy. I am sure it may have its benefits but what I have is working just fine for me.

If you're like me using the software with a mouse and keyboard it's rather difficult to remember which keystroke does what....

Which is why I went with VDJ and a controller... I got a Numark Total Control.... I like the controller but will probably upgrade to a Hercules Steel for durability.

I have been using the Denon HDN-2500 for over a year now. I love it. It is simple, has great effects, and has the versatility to operate PC Programs such as PCDJ, Virtual DJ and the like if that is your preference.

I use a 1 Terrabyte external hard drive with it and have been very pleased with its performance.

Using an external USB Hub permits me to produce shows on a 2 GB USB Key, plug it in, and go to work. Outstanding for candle-lighting ceremonies, Wedding Ceremony Music and such. This thing is extremely verastile and thus far, mechanically dependable.

I use the Hercules RMX controller. It's rugged has a great soundcard and comes with a "lite" version of Virtual DJ. If you choose to upgrade the software they give you a great discount. I dj mostly weddings and this controller does a fine job.

Ps:
This controller has a very nice mic input with talkover function. You do not even need to touch the keyboard/mouse to use this feature.

Here we go! All it takes is a few days with TRAKTOR PRO, buy the most mobile friendly sound card - Indigo DJ and you are set. Use your laptop for DMX control as well. What else do you need to run successful wedding?
Did I missed something in last 4 years?

I use two versions of Traktor. Studio 3 on one machine and on another machine 2.6.1 (Yes it is an older version but I like it). I also use the Gigaport Soundcard.

I love my Cortex HDC-3000 What a great piece...Have used it at over 100 weddings now

I have both Serato Scratch Live and Traktor Scratch Live and 2 Denon HS5500s... I use the timecodes, but when I can't use my time-codes... or just take my laptop.... I use Traktor and it's soundcard... I have all my play keys mapped into the keyboard of the laptop.. and when I need to press play, I have a key for that, cue, I have a key for that, start loop, I have a key for that, auto sync (I don't have a key for that, but I could if I needed to),... I love my traktor... Been using it since 2002 :)

Don't worry Frank.

I have the video crew in this week, and we're doing the Rockit touch screen tutorials. I'll edit them next weekend.

You can mix via touch with Win 7, and never have to worry about keyboard shortcuts again :)

The days of keyboard, mouse and controller are numbered... ;)

Serato Itch with the Vestax VCI-300 controller here...awesome setup. Pricy at first but it does have an internal sound card which I wouldve had to buy two of them anyway so not so pricy in the end. I've used it for many gigs and have never had a hiccup...even on my older laptop.

Personally I like having the hardware to manipulate and beatmix with...don't think I could do it with just keystrokes but that's just me.
