Any GPS Users/Geeks out there?

We used a Garmin Nuvi 250 on our trip to Hawaii last year. Not only did it work great, it provided entertainment as well because it couldn't pronounce any of the names.

The one that really sticks out in my memory is "Turn left on Com ee hom ee ha Highway"(with the pauses in between) which is how is said Kamehameha Highway which is pronounced kah-may-uh-may-uh (or simply Kam highway if you're a local).
 
I've been researching a GPS unit myself, and it appears that the Garmin Nuvis are the reviewers choice. Megellan second, and TomTom last.

Garmin and Magellan use the same routing engines (NAVTEQ), different than the TomToms (Tele Atlas), and are very close, with TomTom almost a distant 3rd.

Although the magazine gave the magellan the better rating, the owner rating was better on the Garmin.

It really doesn't matter, GPS technology is good enough that you can put the new ones on the floor of your car and they will still get reception. I find that when I go downtown, or to the mountains, the signal won't necessarly be lost because the GPS is always connected to a minimum of 3 different satellites, but you will lose connection to a few satellites and the accuracy will go down. It could be accurate down to +/-10feet, then when you lose a satellite it will shoot up to +/- 60feet. Usually they will connect to as many satellites as they can from the location to minimize this.
 
I have a Magellan 4250. The computer software is useless so don't expect to plan trips from the home PC. It gets me anywhere I want to go though. I get a signal in the basement of my house with it and have never lost signal anywhere. All in all and average unit for an above average price. My mom and brother both bought Garmins at Christmas time and they both quit working within six months. They brought them back and both are now happy Tom Tom owners. The Tom Tom software looks pretty good too.
