Folks,

We had a booking for 5 January down home in VA to do a surprise birthday party for the client's hubby. She's a repeat client ~ we did her wedding a few years ago. They were guests at the NYE shows back in the day. I have known this lady and her husband for several years. Really nice people.

Anyhoo, she called to cancel recently. Evidently they aren't going to have enough money available to go through with the show. Something about unexpected doctor bills and whatnot. She was outside the 30-day window so I sent a company check to cover what she'd already paid, accompanied by a letter to wish them all well.

I'm not losing sleep over it. January in the Virginia hill country area often means ice and snow on the roads. It's bitter cold out anyway. Then again, Shirl and I were looking forward to getting together with some old DJ buddies and other assorted friends for dinner while we were there.

Thoughts?
 
Sometimes, things don't work out.

Although the slow season and the money would have been nice...

stuff happens.
 
We have had more cancelations this year than I've ever had, four so far, including one last night due to inclement weather. The funny part of that one was they were a local gig and the one we had out of town last night didn't cancel go figure

You have been real lucky Fred to go that long without a cancelation
 
Welcome to the club my friend! I think that we are the newest members. I had my first cancellation in 23 years last month. They cancelled their wedding in April 'cause they ran off and got hitched. It cost them their $100.00 deposit...thx

That helps a lot. I don't feel like the Lone Ranger now, lol.

When she first called, we chatted and she mentioned something about being late with the retainer fee. Had to make a $1300.00 mortgage payment first. I'm like, OKfine... we'll get it when we get it. We got time.

To make a long story short, we got the retainer and first installment in one check. I put it in the bank and left a voicemail so she'd know we got it. The check cleared and I figger cool beans.

Oh well... I got the days off approved at work. Still got a 4-day weekend coming in early January. :D
 
Fred for what its worth I have had two. Last yr my first in Canada and a tough one. One of my preferred venues god daughter who found out her Fiance was living with a girl when working on the island. She had spent alot of savings at 36 and bought a place local with her to be Groom. However it is best she found out prior to the GIG. The Groom paid the balance and I collected in full after what he put her through!!
