Besides, let's face it here peeps - 6 hours for a wedding reception (ESPECIALLY) if you are just contracted for the reception itself is a LOOOOOONNNNGGGGG time.
Definitely more than needed for including all the usual suspect dances and events, and for having a nice smooth uninterrupted or unrushed flow to the whole thing. And to go 7?!
As a professional service provider whom a client as hired because of their assumption that I am speaking from experience (hopefully) as part of their buying decision, I would have absolutely NO issue letting them know that going that long or any longer may not be in their best interests at all.
Again, this is one of those areas though where you offer your sound nuggets of wisdom for their consideration with the reasonings behind it and let them make at least what is then an educated decision about how they would want to proceed.
Have them think about their guests for goodness sakes - they have to show up before the ceremony and wait for and experience that, and THEN put in an additional what is ALMOST another full 8 hour day at the reception alone?
I don't know....
If you can successful convince her you have a solid itinerary/timeline (myself I would go against my own grain on this one and put times in it) showing her that you can accomplish everything in an un-rushed manner with a nice flow in a 5 hour reception, you will look like frikin' Superman when she can cut an extra hour off of her venue time as well. Heck, you MAY even end up with most if not all of that difference in a tip for it!
