Yeah Thunder, I know that but you cannot use your regular single banana to Speakon cables to bi-amp, you need the special multi-conductor ones which most 'regular' DJ types don't have kicking around. Not to mention that most mobile DJs just don't have the knowledge required to pull off such things without screwing it up... I know you'll agree with me on that. How many times have you seen DJs that use the inuput TRIM adjustment as a VOLUME setting... Or how about, "Can I plug one 8 ohm speaker into the left channel of my PLX and two 8 ohm speakers into the right channel, or will I blow it up?" Ugh... Bi-amping or tri-amping passive rigs is best left to people who know what the f*** they're doing; for the rest, active is the answer. For the lazy too.... 
I know this is a little off topic but have you heard the EON510's? Are you considering the switch or will you keep using your EON10's?

It seems overwhelmingly that so far most hang on to the passive route. That is where I am today, but I have given serious thought to go active and mostly due to the new technology. It seems to me that for the same weight, today most active speakers are easily as light as their passive brethren.
Good example is the new EON 515's - 450 watt amps with built in eq. weight = 33 lbs. 15 inch speaker. I have heard they sound tremendous.
My speaker today is the EV- SX300 12 inch speaker. Weight = approx 33 lbs.
Does this make sense to me??? plus I have to carry a fifty pound additional box to house the amp, eq, etc. Additional hook up cables.

Thought I'd jump in on this one
My first set of speakers was the JBL EON G2's. Great little speaker,lite good sound for what it is, but its still hard to beat the sound of a wood cabnet. I added a pair of JBL JRX118p subs shortly after, that helped alot!
To me its worth the extra weight of a wood cab. If you were to take a plastic & wood cab with the same watts,size drivers side by side the sound is far cleaner with the wood. I like JBL,s but when I saw the 515's all I could say was UGH that is one ugly speaker! That eon sub is sad, wood body with a plastic front. I read a review on it, the guy got them took one listen & sent them back! Not sue what JBL was think'n.
I run all active but have gone to the 3-ways the mid horn adds so much to the mix. Im a DJ/KJ so it realy helps in the vocals. I have a pair of QSC 153i's and a pair QSC 151i subs,and a pair of Mackie SA1530z's I had got the 1801 subs they are junk(sit in my garage) I found out about Yorkville speakers on Mackies forums. I took a leap of faith and bought a par of the Unity UCS1P's subs to go with the Mackies all I can say is OMG these subs are Insane!! 1500watts rms and just 1 15" driver they blow most 18" powerd subs out of the water, they almost match Mackies SWA2801z they have 2 18" drivers!!
I have found that with the 3-ways the low end responce is very good,so most bar gigs you don't even need subs, so there is even less to carry in. they aint lite at 117lbs! I use a hand cart and walk them right in,same with the Yorkvllies 147lbs but the have built in casters and handles on the top(built in hand cart) I guess it comes down prefrance an alot of reserch before ya choose!!

Take a poll and you can get almost any result you want just by changing how you ask the question and where you ask it.
Mikey, if you ask that question in another forum you will get a different answer. This is not to say you've been given incorrect information, just that you asked the heavy iron crowd. Overall, I wonder how many DJ's use passive setups. It was my impression active setups were in the majority on these (ODJT) pages.

cowboydarryl, I haven't heard the new JBL EONs but I would be willing to bet money that your EV Sx300s can kick their a$$ without trying. I can understand wanting to stop carrying around heavy amps. I could see going to powered speakers down the road for the convenience.

I did consider the EON510´s but luckily I went for the RCF´s and I am thankful for this decision. The 510 is an inferior speaker compared to the EOn10G2.
I am also upgrading my subs from EONS to RCF´s
Which RCF tops did you go with and which subs are you planning on purchasing?

I am NOT pointing the finger at you. The shoe fits those who wear it! I have always declared the more I see DJs lessening and eliminating gear the more I see rates $$$$$$ coming down for some. Some of these guys are young and they are already complaining of their back and weight of gear! Feint hearted is what I call 'em.
Honestly speaking, I really love it! It makes me look so different. On average, FOH systems sound more dynamic than regular DJ rigs! If I had a lot more years ahead of me in the business, I would be looking at buying gear like this! Started out with passive. Migrated to quality speakers made by RCF (ART 200's 12") and (ART 800's 15" sub). They are made to be a matched set, internal crossovers. Then when I needed more presence, I purchased a pair of Mackie 1530 (originals not the ones made in China), 3-way 500 Watt. However, that still wasn't what I wanted. I need something to "throw" the sound farther into the room, so I traded the Mackie 1530's for a pair of Yorkville NX 750s (2-way) 15" 750watts and they were what I had needed all along. Keep in mind...all of these speakers are Active vs. Passive. Now I need more subwoofer because the RCF subs just wouldn't do with the Yorkville mains. I purchased a single subwoofer, Yorkville LS700PB (double 10") 700 Watts. Thought that would work well with the Yorkville Tops, but they were overpowering the small sub. So...I made the big, big jump to 18" powered subwoofer because that is what I wanted all along but couldn't afford it back then. I traded the Yorkville LS 700Pb (2x10") subwoofer and cash for...are you ready...a Yorkville LS 801PB 18" 1500 watt subwoofer. Man, now I've got plenty of low end and the Yorkville Tops go swell with the sub. I'm happy for now. When I get my 2d York LS 801PB then I'll have more than enough low end for the school dances and hip-hop parties and major military formal dances where the average number is between 400 and 700 people.

I'm thinking ultimately of the EV ZXA5's for additional tops to go with the two 801PB 18" subwoofers...and probably use the Yorkville NX 750PB tops, too.
All fo the above has taken place since 1999 or within the last 10 years.

I use old school JBL's,never let me down.2-18" subs and 2-!5" satelitte speakers on tripods. I do school dances and the whole nine.I am lusting for the QSC K 12's.

I run a set of active EV's 2 Mains and 2 Subs with an EV Crossover that was built for them, great for up to about 200 people. Passive for everything big.
