Looks like my van was stolen.

Best of luck Adrian. Not trying to be nosey or anything but if you put up some of your gear that has been stolen some of the guys/girls here might have some old equipment that they can donate to you, or sell at a good price to get you back on your feet.

Iā€™d be willing to help, and Iā€™ve spoken to a brother, and a cousin on Long Island that would be willing to help if they have extra that you need.

Hell, I just purchased a controller last week for a young kid that wants to learn how to dj but couldnā€™t afford it. Not bragging, but just letting you know that people are willing to help others out.

Let is know bro. But going forward you have to find a better way to store your gear.

Did you lose your laptops and your music?

I'd like to help too but sending gear from Canada might not be the best idea. Adrian if you get the GoFundMe going post it in this thread

I don't have an issue with taking a beating on this one. I still have 2 laptops and my portable HD'S in the house with my laptop bag. So that's a good start over again. I don't have any problems with anyone who wants to help me out.. I can't argue with someone wanting to help me after what happened. Please let me know what you can do to help me.

Macho,

Youā€™re not getting it. We first have to know what you need to be able to help.

You only need 2 decent 12ā€ powered speakers and 2 stands and you will be up and running. Add a controller which if you were still using the Denon it was time for an update. If you had left your laptop in your vehicle well I wouldnā€™t have any words that. Later you can add some compact subs later if you want to have additional low end. This is sort of thing I just did as I canā€™t/wonā€™t move heavy stuff anymore. My new powered subs are just around 65lb easy to lift and really only needed for larger events. At a small reunion backyard party I was doing each year for 60 people. Iā€™d throw 2 powered speakers, laptop bag, small Denon controller, stands, ez up and 2 kids in my car and do the party with 1 speaker. And for the last one a photobooth. The key in all of this is efficiency, have just what is needed to do the job and make a profit. Figure around 2K for speakers, controller, stands and you should be able to make that back in a year even doing a few small events. Now is the time to start charging and the first ones to send you money should be the long list of people you have done free events for. Actually they should be giving you a fundraiser and have you spin.

Please be kind. I need a controller, 2 speakers, case for the controller, wireless mics, wires and some lights if possible. I have a little bit of lights in the basement. That's what I can think of right now. Oh I did forget speaker stands. As I said I have 2 laptops, wired mic, portable HD'S with music on them, a wire to use with my phone to go online to play music. Any help I can get would be a great help.

Sorry I did forget to mention I have 2 sets of headphones. They were in my laptop bag.

No, you really don't.
This is an opportunity to FOCUS on what it means to be a DJ.

Being a DJ has nothing to do with having any gear.

Your core product is your skill and/or experience - NOT the gear.

You have two PCs, music, and a mic. Maybe you have a personal choice for a controller, so be it.
Everything else you can rent when you need it, and even have it delivered and picked up at the venue for you.
Decide what you want to get paid, then add the rental fees - and that's your new PRICE.

Think about - no more lugging gear to and from a gig. No gear to store. No need to own a van. Nothing to be stolen from the curb.

I hate to be the skeptical guy, but Mix has 3800 Facebook friends and I don't see any mention of his stolen van there.
Not saying it didn't happen. Just be cautious before sending gear or money.

My first reaction! Just didn't say it out loud.

Mix can be grateful that he has no contracts & no monthly expenses . Back in 2008 when the economy went south I had $3400 a month worth of expenses to pay and my casino event business all but went belly up. Most of my clients where connected to the automobiles industry and entertainment got cut & never fully recovered . Too bad we no longer have cash for clunkers , Mix would make out on a trade for a better vehicle . šŸ˜

I never put it on FB what happened. I didn't think of putting it on FB what happened. Thanks for noticing that.

3800 Facebook users following you is a great way to get your Van/gear ripped off.
We can correlate rising crime rates to a lot of things, but it's hard to ignore how simple it is to find easy targets online.

Before I canned Facebook (a very long time ago) I whittled it down to a very small number of people - you had to be a relative, lifelong friend, etc. Anyone not in those categories who I hadn't interacted with personally within the last 6 months could not have access to my feed. Facebook is probably the most insidious stalking tool ever created because it turns potential victims into volunteers.

Acquaintances are not "friends" and to be 'friendly' with someone does not constitute an actual relationship. This is a life skill that should be taught in school but isn't. No one has 3,800 friends and living in a glass house has never worked out well for anyone.
