10 inch tops VS. 12 inch Tops

Do you really need ATA level cases for transport? Those are designed for air shipment (ATA=Air Transport Association of America). I know they'll do the job, but they tend to be far better built than it would seem necessary for other than road tours.
No I don't need them, but I am all about ease of use, I can roll this out of the trailer and into the venue, and back out at the end of the night, I won't play anywhere I can can't roll my gear into. as every piece is on wheels or in a rolling case

That's my rationale as well. I'm currently rolling in an ls801p, then hand truck in an amp rack, then hand truck 2 15" cabs. I'd love to have a single speaker case with wheels on it. Would make like much more simple. I might have to re-think the ATA case. Looks like they running about 45 lbs which should put the lid around 30lbs.

Well, just got back from Guitar Center. Talk about a redirect, I walked into the demo room, plugged in my iphone and started flipping switches to compare the cabs. Checked out the prx710, prx712, qsck10, qsck12, yamaha drx8, ev elx12 and probably a few more. It surprised me at the difference on the jbl 10s and 12s. The 12s didn't really have much more bass but had a lot more of that honky mid-range that I despise. The other thing that shocked me was the prx710 was nowhere near as loud (or pleasant-sounding) as the k10. Thinking they were playing tricks by turning down the prx710, I turned both cabs around to find the k10 was at about 60% while the prx710 was wide open. Weight is very comparable but the k10s have that top-mounted handle. I paid an extra $50/cab and walked out with the k10s. My rep. told me to bring them back if I wasn't pleased. He thought I should've gone with the JBLs but there was just too much difference in the tone and volume.

Ricky ma-boy... A buddy of mine here in Vancouver deejays 90% of his weddings with a single pair of K10's; I kid you not. He occasionally brings out four to accommodate larger venues. By the way, I hope you got the bags for them since they are supposed to scratch very easily. Congrats on your purchase!

Thanks. I didn't get the bags but will put them temporarily into the 12" carvin covers. Whatever top I end up settling on, I'm going to do a rolling hard-shell case for them. The bad part is I don't have a gig this weekend and the 24th has sound provided by the A/V company (corporate gig). The next gig I'm supplying sound on is 1/31. I may eventually get a 2nd pair but I already have a pair of EV Live-x 12s and a pair EVzxa1s that I can use to stack with these. I'm also thinking seriously that with the weight and size I might just put a single pole into the LS801 with a dual-mount bracket on top, then just fan them left/right. Gotta love new toys.

If you run them in mono, it will sound find that way and make for a very compact set-up. Only problem is the 'yahoos' that will look and comment...

You think it wouldn't work in stereo? I used my ZXa1s like this (in mono) and they sounded great. The yahoos are welcome to comment.

I bought two K10's before a big wedding this past September where I had to have four monitors under a huge tent. I LOVE those speakers. Crystal clear sound, good DSP onboard, and I especially enjoy the two channel mixer on each one of them. I will definitely be using them extensively. I am using them for my wedding show setup this season, and on January 2nd, I absolutely filled up a convention center with sound using them. Sure, there would need to be a sub with them for any serious sound, but I am impressed with the lil' fellers!

The only downside to the K10 (if you can call it that) is the wider than normal dispersion can be tricky with vocal mics and avoiding feedback, especially in smaller areas or tight boundries. And a recommendation .. stay clear of the KSub .. just not much there. For the same $$s, you can get much better (IMO).

One tricky thing with evaluating speakers .. every manufacturer sets up the DSP to meet a specific target audience.

When I evaluated the K12 vs PRX612m vs ELX112 (no DXR at the time) .. I found the ELX had a DJ scoop - exaggerated highs/lows - as the norm (flat), the QSC had an exaggerated mid - inverted scoop - that sounded better for vocals, and the PRX were fairly flat, which was what I wanted a the time, seeing as they would pull double duty as mains and monitors.
