My old PC died earlier in the year. It had both V2 and V3 of Karafun on it and I mostly used V2. When I got my new PC, I couldn't find the V2 installer so I just have V3 now. The more I use V3, the more I miss V2. Yes, V3 has some cool stuff like quizzes and battle modes. However, they took away features that used to be available in Pro and now only make them available in Premium.

The feature that I really miss is the ability to set which permissions are available to people using the QR code. The one that I always turn off is the ability to rearrange the queue. V2 let me do that with only a Pro subscription. You need the Premium subscription to do that in V3. The only reason I can see for doing that is forcing people to upgrade. The difference in subscriptions is $40/mo. I am not hosting professionally so I am not going to upgrade.

There is a Karafun group on FB and a user there recommended a program called KJ Genie that works with Karafun and restores many features lost in Karafun V3 and then adds others. It is has a one time fee just over $300. In other words, it is about 8 months of paying for Karafun premium. I usually don't host crowds large enough to worry about people messing with the queue. However, it was a minor problem the other day with a 50 person party. My friend's upcoming birthday will be of a similar size next month. I'm debating whether I should upgrade to premium for one month or just buy KJ Genie. Anyone here have experience with KJ Genie?

Most Dj software will run karaoke. I would just dispense with any extra features and just play the tracks in old school fashion without all the unnecessary features.

I don't know if it's still around but Siglos Karaoke used to have an ideal set of tools and could easily operate as a self-serve show.

I use karafun as a backup to Compuhost. Mostly for newer tracks that aren't my old hard drive library. It switched me over to v3 a few weeks back. Like you, I didn't like it at first but after a week or so, just went with it. Now, I kinda like it better than v2.
I don't have a library of CDGs so I depend on the Karafun library. They lack some key licenses though and sometimes I need to grab a song off the Karafun community. The community function doesn't seem as robust in V3.

I find the quality of Karafun tracks to be superior to the Sunfly, Sound Choice, Party Tyme, etc catalogs of old. I prefer to use them when I can. I also like the ability to add a dose of lead vocal in the background to help some singers or to finish a song if a singer just bails out mid-way through. Karafun lyrics aren't always accurate and sometimes have typos but heck, they are French. I bastardized their language for years.

Makes sense. I have a few regulars who specifically want karafun. The majority want SoundChoice or ChartBusters, which is in my hard drive library. I do like being able to mix in lead or back vox in karafun. It's what I used for the first year of my house gig, then some of them started griping they wanted SC/CB.
