Looping/Re-looping - Curious...

Just curious, as I was reading another thread.

How often do you use looping/re-looping at a gig, whether it be hardware or software based?

Not at home playing, I mean actually using it at a gig to mix to your audience.

it is most appealing to me when an activity takes longer than the song lasts making it an extended version so to speak. or filler for some sort of activity that the song in full isnt particularly needed. However I use it very infrequent. Its really not a need at my events.

Several times specially if the song has a short intro or outro, this helps the mix by hiding what's going on. People will take a little bit longer to realize a new song is coming in , now doing that with vinyl is another story you gotta love the extended versions

OMG... I use looping all of the time live... I run Virtual DJ..

I will loop an incoming song, and cut the mid and highs, bring in the base about half way through the out going song... then make the transition to the new incoming song... works great!

Example.... sexy back into sugar sugar..... try it

scottie we really do think alike. I like to make my own remixes. Looping, delay, flanger, whatever I feel will work.

i'm totally with Koz and Scottie.
I use the Loop function and do my voiceovers to it or announcements. Release my voice and the loop at the same time so my voice ends right when the singer comes in. Seemless.
I use it to beat match, effect, etc.

i don't care for the software based stuff just because it doesn't seem to do the best job of getting loop points right in real time....latency I guess. I don't want to nudge it one way or another to line it up. I want to push and go

So to answer the question.....YES! mandatory in my style....

Yup, gotta have looping! I use it all the time live. It is easier on my Denon 1000's than with Mixmeister Pro but I'm fairly efficient at that too now.

I use loops as well to create the instrumental extensions for mixes, talk-overs, and dance choreography.

Nested loops are also good for starting a song from an interior chorus point for better impact and then returning back to the begining of the first lyric.

I also use looped samples to put the rhythm bed back into those annoying dramatic breaks in techno style dance hits, or to add beats where needed.

I don't play at home, so it's always live for me. In a 2 drive Cd rack, samplers and looping replace what would have been the 3rd turntable in a vinyl era DJ booth.

most likely I use it more than I think but doing it for 30 yrs it seems natural and seldom even remember doing it.

I use looping all the time.

Many times to give bar announcements such as specials, thanking Bartenders, or telling someone their car is being towed.

Even more so for mixing, it is a must. Not every song comes out on funkymix or x-mix and many times they are a month behind. So looping is needed to mix songs.

agreed, i uses it a good amount at gigs, but i practice at home to get the right points ahead of time and some how i usually remember them don't ask me how lol
