A controller is what gives you the ability to control your music and control your mix. It allows you to be creative in your transitions and blending of music. This has nothing to do with whether you’re djing for 10 or 10000 people, it’s all about how you want to showcase the music you want played. The more skillful DJs need controllers to manipulate the music to create impressive mixes. The better the controller the more capable and precise the mixing capabilities

As for your question about controllers, it's definitely a good idea to consider getting one if you're looking to step up to doing gigs for up to 200 people. A controller is basically a piece of hardware that allows you to control your DJ software and make adjustments to your music on the fly.

One of the main benefits of using a controller is that it can give you more precise control over your mixing and transitions. Plus, it can make it easier to manipulate your music and create unique effects that will keep your audience engaged and dancing all night long.

Now, I'm not saying you absolutely need one - you can definitely keep using your laptop mixer and speakers if that's what you're comfortable with. But if you're looking to take your DJ game to the next level, a controller is definitely worth considering. Just make sure you do your research and find one that fits your budget and workflow.

Let me suggest if you get one to not by an entry level controller. Get one that you can connect directly to it eliminating the need to use a mixing board and hopefully have enough features to hookup 2 mics and other things you might want to connect to the controller. You don't have to spend 1k or more. Just do your research to find what will work best for you so you don't quickly get rid of one to get something else.

Let me ask if you do decide to buy one, what is your budget?

If you want the best sound, you should always use an external mixer. This is incorrect information

Do you use an external mixer? I do it the way I said to avoid using more gear than I need to. The sound is great for us. People don't complain about how the system sounds. We use high quality gear and not entry level gear.

I have one of the best controllers and still use an external mixer. Not just because it sounds better (it sounds NOTICEABLY better)… but also for backup purposes

I found for the events I do the controller was just for show although I do miss my jog wheels.
A well mapped Keyboard in VDJ and mouse work great and feels more tactile, plus having a great sounding and versatile mixer helps :) (plus a maya44 USB soundcard)After and Before photos :)

I love using a controller. I like to be able to feel my way to setup my mixes. Nowadays controllers have a sound card that eliminate using a box. The beautiful thing is that it scratches. Without that when you cue up a song to mix you will get shuddering.

You should ask for us to give suggestions on a controller if you choose to go that route. What is your budget for a controller.? I like asking that so we don't suggest something that's out of your budget.

Thanks all. The controller I use no issues with either mics not enough volume. You have to be careful that the volume is too loud.

I hate they discontinued the Denon DN MC 6000. I love it because it is compact and not that heavy. I keep mine in a hard case that I can easily carry. No need for a case on wheels.

No one said the loudness isn’t there… it’s the quality. Trust me… the Denon you have is no where near as good as what an external mixer can do. Do your research, as the things you say show you don’t have an understanding of why an external mixer is a better solution.

People don’t complain because we bring quality to the events we do. I don't know what People think of what you do. Hopefully you do a good job for clients you work for.
