I remember years ago working with the talent agency, they would get FLOODED with New Years Eve requests starting about the 5th of December. the inquiries would last right up until December 23rd. Lots of restaurants and bars wanting a DJ, but only wanting to spend $250, or $300, and maybe offering a free meal. The agency would just try to fill the requests rather than sell a DJ at higher prices. ...They would fill some of them, but many inquiries would go unfilled because most DJs wanted more money.
I usually would get booked on a NYE restaurant gig for like $600 or more. That faded more and more after the recession though. I doubt they get 1/4 the influx of inquiries for NYE like they did back around 2007 and prior. It use to be a much bigger party night IMO.
I have seen a few inquiries on Gig Masters in the last 2 weeks. The budgets listed have all been $300 to $500 for a DJ on all of them. ...I am taking this year off. With a full time job, I feel I don't have to work NYE, and my wife wants me home. ...I told her I would only book it if a $1,500+ event came in, LOL...been quoting $2,000 with no takers! lol
Around here anyone serious would be booking in September maybe October. There is always one or two that come in after that but it's rare to see more than that
Restaurants don't book DJ's here as a rule but NYE has always been a big night for community halls. Seems every year there are less and less events though. That being said I've only missed one since 1983 and I actually got paid for it anyway it was a last minute cancellation
