This is my setup. Still waiting for Senior walk-out so I have my scanners/movers off and no pics loaded on the screen yet. I did flip on the new uplights for a second. Wow, what a difference. The new 12ft screen hanging from my truss is working great. I have my projector about 4 feet from it and the projector is protected by my 2 TS215s subs. They're about 8 feet out in front of the tops, which are on the ends of the truss. Sound is fantastic but I sure wouldn't have minded having a 3rd sub. The new photobooth is setup and ready to go. Everything seems to be working smoothly. Wish me luck.

Did you do the stage lights too? I am seeing the PB pics on Facebook.

The white par cans are the house lights. The rear curtain and christmas lights are the sponsor. I add a runway spot, blue accents and purple on the chandeliers. The sponsors usually do as much decor as they can, then they let me come in an add to it. I was very pleased with last night's presentation. BTW, sound was good. That configuration worked very well and I never saw the first clip light all night long.

Incidentally, here are the photobooth and livepic photos. Had a couple of bumps. My hotspot apparently timed out at one point, so I lost some of the photo uploads last night, but I've since re-loaded them this morning. Also had a printer paper issue that caused some troubles so I'm printing 2 sets of 4X6s on all the prints and sending them to the school. Other than that, the photobooth was well received and a very welcome upgrade over previous efforts. Overall, I'm very pleased. The sound was great. Pair of Alto TS215s subs, center loaded and a pair of QSC K10s about 9 feet high. I have to say, that pair of Altos center-loaded sounded better than the Yorkie ls801ps spread 30 feet apart. The wireless DMX lights were well-received and I figured out how to tweak the audio levels in Freestyler so the sound active plug looked great. I actually ended up setting up 2 wireless DMX universes. The uplights were running from my main laptop using Freestyler and the scanners were running wireless DMX (dongles) from my 2nd laptop using myDMX. It actually worked out well.

Nice accent lighting. What light did you use to hi-light the chandeliers? Battery pin spot with color gel?

Nope. I had all my 9X18 fixtures installed on the other end so I used my el-cheapo UV led fixtures, shooting from the floor. I used 2 fixtures per chandelier. I was going to use source four jr zooms but the LEDs looked better.

This is why you need an attendant... other clients will no be so forgiving......I would have offered a partial; refund on the photo booth.

A prom account doesn't want a partial refund. The kids have gone out and earned money, and the money's been spent. Trying to roll it over to the next year doesn't work for the school. I think it's better to do a little something extra, which I did.

Wow, this one has blown up on Facebook today. I've had several exchanges with one parent in particular. She thought I was the official photographer. After I told her "No, I'm just the DJ" she starts raving over the pics we took, both the casuals and the photobooth. Told me my pics were much better than the official guy. I also took a couple of runway shots during the senior walk out and one of them just happened to be the nephew of the sponsor. Got some mileage out of that one and she's gonna freak when I have a nice portrait mailed to her. I just mailed out the replacement hard copies this morning. Maybe I need to start pitching a combined photo+DJ for proms? I'd love the chance to sell a few hundred portrait packages. That would dwarf anything I can as just a DJ/lighting guy.

Looks great Rick! Have you ever thought about adding one of those new wireless lights on top of each speaker for wash? I do that and it works great!

That looks fabulous. I hadn't thought about on top of the speakers but that's a great idea. Might have to do that this coming weekend.

Thanks Rick. Only thing is those LEDs are hella bright! I would suggest putting some kind of diffusion filter over them. I am thinking to get some of that plastic panel stuff that is used to cover those 2x4 ft flourescent ceiling fixtures and cutting it to size. If you have an idea of what would work well, do tell.

Also, since they are wireless what works great is to put a couple fixtures on simple tripods in the far corners of the room for wash is well. What this does is engulf the guests which is really cool, especially once the chase programs run! My schools LOVE the effect! Works great when you hit UV too!

You know, I've got colorstrips setup to mount on top of my K10s. I could probably set those to the same address as the 9X18s and use a Donner dongle to hook them into the universe for the rest of the uplights. As of now, I'm just using freestyler's sound active module, so they should work. I'm still a little short on 9X18 fixtures (I have 14 total) so I'm probably going to have to supplement with older fixtures this week.

So if you had to do it again and had it in the budget would you go ahead and have ordered 20 uplights?

No. I wasn't sure how well they'd work so I still would've done a smaller order. As of now, I'm likely going to order another batch in the next week or so. It's really dramatic at the difference.
