Upgrading my photobooth setup

Part of my end game is to have a FB album setup before the event and have signage that directs the guests to the album. Of course, they'll have to "Like" my page in the process.

Be careful; Facebook hasn't allowed like-gates in almost four years. If you're still able to build one, it's a violation of their TOS and will get your page shut down.

I'm not familiar with the term "like-gates".

Update: Ah, the first google I find says this pertains to campaigns and promotions. I'm not sure that requiring a like before showing pics would fall in the same category. What do you think?

"Like-gate" = the imaginary wall that you put people behind, requiring them to "Like" your Facebook page in order to take a next action (i.e. view a photo gallery). Typically, it's software based. A lot of the sharing station software made for Photobooths (PicPicSocial, Photo Party Upload, and even full-fledged booth programs like Photoboof) once had an option to require guests to like your page before they could post their photos to their own Facebook timelines.

I don't see how you'd be able to implement it any other way unless you simply lock your Facebook page down and require everyone to like it in order to view anything that's on it.

Just a quick update, I'm having to re-think my re-config plans on the booth. I bought an always-on, 18" ring light, got everything configured and finally realized that it was too much weight for the ring light's plastic mount. Now, I'm ditching the ring light and going back to a camera flash. I also have bought a Microsoft Surface 3, along with a VESA acrylic case (looks so cool) and have a clamp mount coming tomorrow. I'm going to use a standard camera tripod, mount the tablet and cover it with a white, uplit scrim. I think the final result is going to be cool. Will post pics once I have it all together. I gotta use it on 4/7 for a prom.

Okay, so I'm working with the photobooth setup today. Bought Sparkbooth and like it a lot. Very simple setup, it has lots of options, and it will upload photos to my biz facebook page (in addition to letting the user text, email, twitter or their own facebook page). I'm using a Microsoft Surface 3 with Windows 10 and using an 18" LED ring light for lighting (always on). I tried it with the built-in webcam (2mp) then changed out to a 15mp camera (Logitech 920). Big difference. This looks like a pretty bullet-proof rig, hopefully a lot better than the older Breezesys software. I'm expecting a white scrim to arrive tomorrow, to put on the camera tripod and uplight it. Wifey says it's a big improvement, so at least there's that. Here are the samples;

They're very "cold" for lack of a better word - white balance perhaps? Just saw web cam - that explains it.... Might want to try a darker environment - similar to what you'll experience in real world use....Any software can upload to a preset facebook page... the issue was demanding likes from guests

I don't see any kind of color adjustment in the software but I have a set of warm diffusers for the ring light. I'll probably try that this week. Overall, I'm very pleased with the change and am curious to see how well it performs this weekend with a bunch of teenagers banging on it.

Try tethertools.com - You can set up a complete "kiosk" with their mounts

Their tools are for a photographer, shooting tethered. This is a stand-alone, self-service style kiosk. I'm getting away from having to have a technician/photographer.

Here's another shot, but with an amber diffuser on the ring light. I think it looks a lot better (well, not the subject mind you). Dam, I gotta creepy smile.

Much better - a lot "warmer - The issue you're going to have with the web cam is motion blu, especially as the ambient light diminishes...

With tether tools you can get mounts to create a stand alone kiosk

I have an extra DSLR body and if I get there and the webcam isn't behaving, I'll just change it out. The webcam is a brand new, high-def unit and with the always-on ring light, I think the ambient light won't be an issue. So far in my testing the motion blur is a non-issue. The real test is Saturday night when a bunch of high schoolers are jumping in/out of the frame. As for the mount, I already have a VESA protective casing on the Surface 3. It's clear acrylic and looks pretty cool. If this works as well as I'm hoping I may start pitching PB a lot harder and make it semi-standard on the various packages. Up to this point we've only been including it in our top-end packages, given it required a worker to man it. If this one works hands-off, like it's suppose to, then it should be as simple as loading a new set of paper each gig and forget it. I REALLY like that it auto-uploads to my facebook biz page. Now I've got to come up with some signage that directs guests to the page.

I thought about doing a big QR Code but most people don't have a QR reader already installed. Ryan Photography, DJ and Lighting is entirely too long. Anybody got suggestions on the best way to direct kids to my facebook page?

iPhones have QR code capability built-in to the camera app .. you just point it at a code and the url pops up. Not sure on Androids.

Oops, skip that. I think I got it figured out. I'm going to print off several of these. Put a couple around my booth area and a few more out in the entrance atrium area. What do you think?

Yea .. the built-in app shot to your page.

I would start transitioning off goo.gl, as Google announced the service is not available to anyone new and will be retired in the next couple years.

That's weird Mine is an iphone 6 and won't do it. I had to download a QR reader app. What about you other iphone users? Does your work?
