I was looking at the "A Solid Gold Contract" and saw that they charge $25 for a wireless mic. Do you do that and why?
Tom, there are so many operators who are bottom feeders........these guys are charging rock bottom prices to lure the customers in. These same guys will try to get as many nickel-and-dime upsells as they can, to increase their bottom line.
I've offered a cordless mic as part of the reception package......since the early 90's when I got my first Shure UHF diversity wireless mic.
I myself was guilty of this practice (of sorts) when I used to offer a "$599 reception package" (didn't include ceremony or lapel mic). I would wait until after they had paid the deposit/retainer for the reception package, then I would bring up the issue of the ceremony and the need for a microphone.
Nowadays, I'm quoting the entire package up front. I lose more business this way, due to a higher price......but there are NO UPSELLS. Everything is included.....wireless lapel mic for ceremony system, and then a cordless handheld mic for the reception system (both Sennheisers, the BMW of mics).
Need lighting? Its included with receptions of 5 hours or more.
I still charge extra for Karaoke.....

I include it in all my packages, heck its easy for me so I don`t have to run a long XLR or tape wires to the floor.
I think its a nice touch and it makes my party packages look good when the competition may nickle & dime clients for small things.

Nah... we offer the entire DJ package, wireless included. Wireless mics have become standard equipment for entertainment companies anyhow.
Itemizing can become cumbersome and confusing. Way I figure, the wireless is gonna be there anyway ~ we use it. Why charge extra for it?
I could understand upping the cost for say, a wall of sound vs. the standard sub and tops on sticks. There you're talking additional labor and time to load.

No....wireless mics are so commonplace now that to me it's like charging extra for speakers or a mixer.
Always included. I also include a wireless lapel in my ceremony package. Honestly, the only upsells I do are ceremonies, overtime and karaoke.

Ditto on the ease of offering it with any package! Same with a basic lighting package no additional fee for my Martin Acrobat. Enhancing and making my job easier for a minimal additional hookup pays volumes.
I'm almost completely wireless!

Makes for a clean looking, and extremely flexible setup.

I try to keep my prices as low as possible.
I've read on another website on the HOW TO HIRE A DJ page about how "if you pay a 'professional' price, then you will not get charged extra for little things".
But I figured, I would rather pay $300 less for a DJ who will add on a little extra for a wireless mic if I really want it, rather than pay hundreds of dollars more for a DJ who includes it anyway.
A wireless mic is a big pain for me. I don't need it, and I have a very good PEAVEY microphone with a 6 metre long cord.
BUT, now that the mic has absolutely paid for itself, and my prices HAVE gone up, I am more likely to throw it in under most circumstances.
It's included in my VINYL SPINNER WEDDING package. I think I'll add MCing, too!

peavey? Do they make anything good beside the Passport battery powered system? If you are actually charging $25 dollars for something in your rig, then you have problems. You will probably spend more than $25 in gas to go to the event unless it is out your back door. It makes you look cheap too, that you are nailing clients. I have had clients refuse to give me free food because I was being paid at the event. I then proceed to ask their assistant or someone who i assisting at the event for my free food

I probably spend less than $25 to go to an event. Maybe you spend more, but I don't unless it's out of town.
You're right, because when you (GENERAL "you") include the cost of lights and such in your price, whether or not you use them, you're not nailing clients.

I would probably charge for a WIRED mic! 
Charging for a wireless mic? I would guess that they use Realistic/Archer equipment, too. Man, get out of the '80s...

Wireless mics are so common place now (even on TV) that I always get a chuckle when I see DJ websites that make such a big deal out of them being included in their wedding packages. It's like saying "Hey this package includes speakers!"
