Yesterday I went and did a H & I PR learning day for this 12 step recovery program I'm a member of. This was my second year of them having me to do it. I did the job myself. Now I'm very tired and a little bit sore but it worked out great!

The one issue I had was when I got there I couldn't setup because there was another event going on. So I had to wait till that event was over. So that pushed me back for my setup time. Not a super big deal as they were running behind time. It was supposed to start at 1pm and I was setup a little bit after that. For me I don't like being late. Nobody had a problem with it though.

Now they had to go through the learning day before I was to start playing. They had a break towards the end for a guy to setup a projector presentation. So during the break I played for about 10 minutes.

The big deal for me came from one of my sponsee brothers that wanted to talk to me. He had me to come upstairs before I went to play. They were having an activities meeting and they are planning on having a basketball Tournament. I forgot to ask what the date is. Hopefully I'll find out later on today. The issue dealing with me is that they are looking for a DJ to do the basketball tournament and wanted me to give them a price for me to do it. I gave them a price and they have to decide as a committee who they are going to pick. They have other bids coming in and I'll find out later if I get the job or not. I'm just excited to be considered in the decision. This is a big deal.

It's a lot of work. The event is from 12pm-12am. I talked it over with my main partner last night and he suggested that we give them what I now will call the Canute factor. If I get it we will be bring the double 15's along with bot the powered tops and subs. He suggested this because he wanted to give them something that would be over impressive. His thinking is that will lead to other gigs in the future because they won't be used to seeing that. Alll I know to do is pray I get it.

I made a big decision for me and that is that I'm not changing my mind on the price to possibly win the gig. The price stays as stated and it's up to them to either accept or reject it. One final note even though the event I did yesterday didn't pay a lot of money I decided to bring one of the subs so that they would see a DJ with more then just a pair of speaker tops. Have a wonderful day.

Be aware .. at the few basketball games I have been to with a DJ (high school jamborees and such), it was almost all rap and a few other power top 40 current hits (like the Blurred Lines of that date). It's the primary audience that accounts for it.

You'll need some as when there is a time out or when it's shoot around for the teams warming up. after the trophy's are given out it will be party time! That crowd will want a lot of club music with some r & b mixed in as filler.

Haven't gotten the gig yet but I'm just proud of my decision to stand my ground on the price I gave them.

Most crowds WILL NOT want club music or older R&B .. it'll be hard core rap, some heavy metal and current R&B/Hip Hop. They normally want to keep the tempo and adrenaline levels high.

Trust me what you suggested would get you the boot with this crowd. There won't be a lot of teens at this tournament or young kids. A lot of those people will be in their 40's and 50's. Alot of the crowd will be from the days of when there were real clubs playing real music. And not these garbage clubs they have today that will have a bunch of young ones coming in and all they want to hear is today's rap, hip hop or booty shaker club.

Remember this is mainly a recovery crowd. Yes there will be some that are very young in recovery there but most will be what is called old heads. You play some heavy metal with this crowd and you'll get some heavy metal upside your head. LOL!

OK .. if the tournament is just for the group, then you may be set. Typically tournaments are held with younger players.

That's just it. The players won't be teenagers. They will be grown men. some in their 30's and 40's. Again I'm not set at all. I haven't won the gig yet. I'm just happy to have been considered for the gig. Especially considering I was using drugs at one time and got rid of all my equipment from before. And now look where I am at today. Better then I was before. Thank you God for another day of being clean.
