Looking At Getting A Rock And Roller Utility Cart Please Help.

I keep all my gear on carts in the trailer, all Magliner carts and they will roll on anything. They are super heavy duty, but they don't come cheap. Where I bought my gear from told me to spend the money up front on the Magliner, they had used everything else mentioned here and killed them in less than 3 years.

This is a Sam Ash store so I am sure the carts were abused, but they have not been able to kill a Magliner. On one of my Magliners I have four 75 lbs subs, two 50 lbs tops, two 40 lbs tops, and a 80 lbs rack.

Are these the same kind similar to what UPS uses? I have one of the Platform Trucks.
 
Go to the website, and look at all they have available. I have one convertable, one of the large ones that most soda/beer trucks use and one utility cart with my 22 RU case mounted to it full time.

I looked at the ones on the website. The advantage that the Muver and Rock and roller have over the Magliners is that they have tall handles at each end. If you hit a snag in the floor/carpet/gravel stuff won't go skidding off the ends as what would happen to the Magliners with only one tall end. I have used these types before going to the Rock n Roller and as stated I have one of the large industrial Platform Trucks which also has the same flaw. Only way to prevent it is to strap it down and that takes extra time. If you like them then thats fine, I have no quarrel with that. When someone does come on asking for recommendations I don't have any problem sharing my experiences (pros and cons). Its all good!
 
I forgot, I also added the foot brake. My three carts and my large custome built Odysey cofin, carry all my equipment and lights and all go in a 10 ft' walk in trailer.

If that is the one you have and stays loaded in a trailer or truck I can see its overall benefits for you. However it does not collapse in length (Except for the handles in height )so that flexibility feature is lost. It would be difficult to store under a small table or in my case under my back seat in the van. I must say though that is it sturdy and great for the big gigs. Can I use it? Sure if I had a bigger Van.
 
Yes it does have the storage draw backs. Most of my gigs I have a place at the venue to store all my carts once I set up the equipment I need. On the few that I don't , they all go back in the trailer. Every peice of gear I own, speakers, cases and racks all have Tuki covers on them, so I have no way to hide all that stuff anyways.

The other cart I have is the convertable magliner and it won't fold down as small as the others I have seen on here either.

I don't know if this will work for you or anyone reading this idea but most of the times, since I do not use a table , if there is space in the room, I carry two large heavy duty wrinkle free tablecloths, one Burgundy and the other Black to cover everything on the rack and leave it somewhere out of the way. I leave the top uneven so people would not be tempted to place anything on top. I place my rack covers and Bose Speakers front covers on the rack and drape the table cloth nicely over it, all the way around and down to the floor. Again, that is if space allows. This way, if I need anything in a hurry, it is right there. I have never had a venue object to it yet! That beats having to run back to the van if I need anything or at the end of the Gig! You can possibly even make one out of black spandex. That should look nice.

maestro, I like you more every time I read your post. I tend to be skeptical of many manufacturers adds also and like to speak to someone useing the product in the real world. In todays on-line video world you can make a hog look like Miss America :)
 
There is such a thing called purchasing with a Credit Card. If the item comes and from first look it does not measure up, send the shyt back. A cart is not Electronic Equipment. It gives you weight limit, length, width, height, you already know that the middle wheel pivots etc. That is good enough for me. I bought my Rock n Roller without even ever seeing one or a Video and it served me well. However, I do understand the skepticism so do what you have to do.
 
Thanks all as I need to limit the trips from the basement to the van and so forth. I'll look to get one I guess for $150.00-$180.00. I just don't know exactly what the subs and tops weight. I'll guess 350lbs. I just know I need to cut down on so many trips and also time loading in and out of a venue. I know I just want something good enough that won't give me problems.
 
I would not spend over $300 on the "muver" - the center wheels appear to be solid plastic or rubber and not heavy duty enough. In fact, in the video the cart appears to be overloaded and the handler is being exceptionally gentle with it. For that amount of money just get the real thing:

I use one of these and they are fantastic - lightweight aluminum (can be carried) and holds even more (1000 lbs) than what was shown in the muver video. Rolls over thresholds and even a few small stairs. No, you are not going to fit in in the trunk of a car - but, cars were not meant to be delivery vehicles either.

They sell for about the same price as the muver, and you can even find them used for less. I got mine when working a trade show. An exhibitor had one with a split tire and got so fed-up he fed it to the dumpster! I took it home - replaced the tire (~$29) and voila!

I also use a standard version with the longer fold down tongue for smaller deliveries or places where I don't think a platform truck will maneuver easily.
