My Partner Just Picked Up One Of These Speakers!

We went out to Elmwood Park, NJ and got a JBL TR 225 speaker. Guy only had 1. Too bad he didn't have 2 of them. He only paid $85.00 for that speaker and I picked up a case for $40.00 that we're going to put the 2 Furmans in that I have. Here is a picture of the speaker and it's in mint condition.

Great buy and everything... But the only type of speaker I would buy as a single is a sub. Good luck on finding a matching single at a decent price.

I got you and that's on him. He'll find one but for that price you couldn't beat it. I'm going to check online to see what the price is.
 
Here also is the case I bought today for $40.00 from the guy too. We just mounted the 2 furman's and amp in the case. Here are 2 pictures.

Mix you can utilize a single speaker as a Fill Speaker or Monitor. Get a Live Mixer with an Aux Send/ with a Mono Output and it can be utilized. Of course you will need an amp. Get an amp that when bridged, has the appropriate wattage to that speaker.

He has the same amp I do and that is the QSC 2450. He just found one online at GC for $119.00. So I guess he'll get that one. So actually for $204.00 he can have 2 of them. Now that's a steal. It sounds very good.

No the person that sold it is in a band and he quit another band and that left him with the one speaker. Another guy kept the other one since they both paid for one themselves..
 
Just so you understand, Mix... that speaker is almost 20 years old - the TR series was JBL's entry-level line in the mid-90s. The sound is harsh, the cabinets are made of particle board, and they're heavy (90 pounds each). I owned a pair of TR-125 speakers (same speaker, minus one of the woofers) for exactly one day in 1995, and I returned them on the second day. Even at $85, your friend got ripped off. It's really not a good speaker.
 
Brendan you are correct. This was JBL's attempt at a cheap intro level speaker. Junk!!

Are you sure that was a JRX 225? That is a pretty new unit. The JX125 was the previous double 15" speaker (Brendan, the single 15" was the 115).

As mentioned, both are made of MDF ... basically a heavy particle board, so tell your partner to be careful in keeping them dry .. even out of humidity, as the particles will blister and come apart if moisture gets in.

I assume they are the 125 for the price and age .. there are some "fixes" on YouTube he may want to look into .. apparently make a big difference in sound quality:

It's not my speaker. I didn't buy it and this partner really had nothing to use as the ones he has aren't working. Trust me it's not an entry level speaker. The JRX 125 is the ones I would say are entry level. They will work fine. It sounds good. Not the best but very good. I wouldn't put it up against my Yamaha S215.

I said TR 225 and not JRX 125.
