Nice.

The one we had in the Escalade was CRAP. Half the time it had us driving through totally random places. The one in the new Suburban is much better. They've certainly come a long way in the past couple years.

Chris, Shirl has GPS on her cell phone. Have you looked at cell providers? They might offer a better deal depending upon how often you use it. :)

BTW, GPS has a nasty habit of telling you to turn the wrong way down a one way street. :D

I have a Garmin Nuvi 350. I love it.

It has saved me many headaches & helped me get around LA last fall.
Have you ever driven in LA? Yikes!
 
Bill, I read on Amazon.com that the Garmin 350 can reroute you around traffic jams or other roadblocks. Does that mean that it gets updated in real time?

Bryan, I just got my unit at work today. I got into my car and quickly entered my work address and home address and plotted a route. I had it figrured out in under 5 minutes.

You can change the voice language to about 15-20 languages. Something like that.

The speaker is loud enough where you can still have your radio on but I wouldn't put the radio on TOO loud.

I tested the rerouting and it works great. I deliberately took wrong turns and missed turns. About 2 seconds after making a wrong move the unit would say something like "recalculating route" and then tell you how to get going in the right direction again. On a major road it was telling me that I needed to turn around in .4 miles which was the next traffic light.

As with Yahoo maps and mapquest, the unit doesn't give you the BEST directions on getting somewhere but it DOES get you there. I think distance wise it gives you the shortest possible trip but of course that doesn't account for things like traffic lights, stop sings and such.

One thing I highly suggest is to practice with the unit. Input the address of somewhere that you KNOW how to get to and then follow the vocal directions given to you. Pay attention to HOW the unit is telling you to drive because it can be a little confusing at first. For instance, it will say "go straight for .7 miles and make a right." You're doing that but then again it will say "go straight and make a left in .4 miles."

It repeats the same directions but since you're closer it tells you so. That's why you should practice BEFORE going out somewhere you don't know. You need to understand how this unit is telling you to get somewhere.

When going in the mountains, check your GPS as it will tell you how high above sea level you are. You can do this anytime by pressing the SATELLITE icon in your dashboard.

On the left side of the dashboard, where it shows you your mileage left, by clicking on that info panel it will take you to PARAMETERS. There you can choose route by FASTEST, SHORTEST, or ECONOMICAL. You can then choose to use Tolls, Paved/Unpaved/Ferries/Etc.
 
for palm treo users on sprint, verizon, and possibly other carriers, google has a palm version of google maps that works very well, must have their internet service in order for it to work, ie... mobile web.

I have used it many times and it is a true asset to our biz.

I noticed that at work. My job is about a minute from the beach so I was only about 10 feet above sea level. lol

I haven't read the directionss or fully gone through the box yet, but is there some kind of "pencil" for typing in addresses? I was just using a closed click pen to input the info.
 
Styli is the plural of stylus! There's no need for the ending s nor the apostrophe.
