The red dots represent an area with more bars than grocery stores, yellow dots mean more grocery stores than bars Wisconsin is very red577450_10151422210968668_1821815743_n.jpg

If it weren't for bar gigs in middle of the week I'd have to go get a another job.
There, I fixed that for you. Are you saying that someone making a living from DJing is not doing a real job? For a moment there you sounded like some of the skeptics. It is as real as YOU want it to be. If you are doing DJ as your business, declaring your earnings and filing your taxes accordingly even the Banks will give you respect.

Tell me honestly, that you don't manipulate your DJ earnings for tax purposes...

That would, I suppose, mean that you would do more than 2 gigs a year for some nudist club.

What you said could have a true meaning to some, how would I have known you were not one of them? There are many DJs even on this board who state they have "real" jobs and do DJing on the side, which I guess does not make DJing "real" to them. To some, working for someone else is considered a real job. :) Just setting the record straight. BTW you ended your sentence with a period so that makes it a statement. Had you placed an exclamation mark on the end and a smiley face then it could have a different meaning.
Say what you mean not mean what you say!!!

My week night bar gigs gross a little over $30,000 a year, add that to most Fridays being booked at $500 plus and Saturdays at $1000 minimum, most closer to $1700 after add ons and I do ok

Tunes, thank you for sharing this. Are you having to supply sound or lighting for the mid-week bar gigs? Around here, I believe that most club jocks that I know are getting $50-$100 per night but your post encourages me to think maybe I could actually make some decent bread at it. If my day gig folds up, this definitely holds some interest along with perhaps pap's idea of kid's bubble parties.

Thanks again.

I know a bar gig is beneath you Dennis but I put my gear to work during the week. Mid week gigs pull $200-$300 per shift. Currently, I'm working 3 nights a week. I wish I had more DJs that were like you around here so I could pick up some more bar gigs.

Yes I supply sound these are bar gigs not clubs, I my system is 2 DXR10's over two HPR 181 subs take 15 min to set up and ten to tear down, with minimal lighting, this is rural southwest Wisconsin, some of these bars are no more than a wide spot in the road, but it is incredible the number of people that will come out in the middle of the week My Wednesday night gig I have had for 15 years, my Tuesday has been a regular spot for 8 years, and the Thursday gig has been a solid 5 plus years

If I could make a living doing bar gigs I would, no stress no planning, set up play, tear down go home, no one cares if there are a few wires showing, people are there for the express purpose of having a good time. it's pretty easy money.

That's want they want to spend here too, but once they realize what a good DJ who knows how to work a bar crowd for maximum bar profit can add to their bottom line, they gladly pay more, much more.

I like bars -- I can make lots of tips, no matter what they pay me. If I keep the bar turning every 20-25 minutes, I usually can get a percentage of bar as well.

You have to hustle in a bar -- you need to make them thirsty. You also have to work the requests properly -- dude comes up and puts a 5 dollar bill in your hand, because he wants to dance with some chick before she leaves. You tell him you've two requests ahead of him at 10 bucks each -- he hands you a 20 bill to get to the top of the list.

People go to bars to get drunk and socialize -- might just as well take advantage of it.

The phrase "REAL JOB" is used by people who DJ full time, as a negative slam on those who don't.
Guys like me who do this part time consider their DJ work as a REAL job...
and I don't know of any part timer who thinks otherwise.
