What are the specs on the laptop and the video card. Video playback, especially HD quality, benefits from an independent graphics card with it's own, non-shared memory.

Choppy on your laptop screen or choppy on the output monitor or both?

What are your settings on the CONFIG - VIDEO tab?

http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/2170/Registry_Tool.html - Download the Registry tool if you haven't already. Then set the maximum output for your video card to 600. Let me know if that helps. :)
need to try that out today

2Gb GT 650M is plenty for video, as is an i7 w/8Gb of memory.

Nothing there indicates a system unable to handle video .. even full HD, so I would suspect there is some config issue as mentioned.

Choppy while playing in Virtual DJ but not on the screen is indicative of something running in the background on the computer, not DJ related. While the list of cause possibilities is endless, I would start with my anti-virus program and tell it not to scan mp3, mp4, or whatever other media-type files you play. The quickest and easiest step to see if it might be your culprit is to temporarily disabled any anti-virus, malware, spyware programs and check out if the stuttering is gone (which my guess is, it will.) then fine tune to raggy program in its options.

Other common possibilities include programs trying to auto update themselves, superfluous bloatware running in the back ground, and other software related happenstances.

Good luck, better skill.

One other thought popped into my head. Have you done a full scan of your entire collection of media files? If VDJ is updating a specific file for bpm, volume, and all its other database structures while a track is playing, it almost always does a number on the VDJ computer screen but rarely if ever does so on the output screen.

ok i got all i have to do is right click on the vdj icon and high light the run with graphics processer..do i still have to download the registry tool?

ok after i download it what do i do? sorry for this dumb question..never done this before

No worries, below is a photo of what mine looks like. All you need to focus on is the bottom left hand corner. You can try matching my settings. Although for the " VideoMemMaxUse " i have mine set to 750 - if you do this and it still doesn't work very well for you then try setting that number to 450 instead. Let me know if you have any problems/questions! :)
