I'm a little fustrated right now with business.

She then went on to tell me her fiance had a friend he knew that would do her wedding.

Am I the only one who saw this?

Folks, this isn't about salesmanship or price. It ain't about how many "likes" or imaginary friends one can accumulate on social networking websites. It's just another prospect who wants a wedding DJ company service but doesn't want to, or isn't able to pay for it.

Before we retired, the economy had already ripped us a new one. We were still getting calls but it wasn't like people were serious about paying for it. Many of the local DJ companies had already taken up the price wars and were quoting prices I was DJing for in 1995. It simply wasn't worth it anymore.

You're partly correct Fred. Some are just looking for a cheap service. The big thing is to be able to show a potential client why you're worth the price you quoted them. If you can't do that then why would they pay you that price? Why shouldn't they look else where for another DJ which a lot of times is willing to do their event for a cheaper price then you quoted them?

Facebook comments carry a bit of weight as the individuals can be tracked back to. Simple quotes, especially on conglomerating sites, tend to have less impact. I know a car wash in my town that was giving out free car washes to those that posted a positive review on Yelp and another site. YMMV

Not true at all. I have worked, as many know here, in the hotel industry for almost 12 years now. Places like TripAdvisor, Kayak, Priceline, etc... all include customer feedback features where past guests can rate and prospective guests can post and read comments and ratings on hotels they are interested in staying at.

Same goes for the wedding and other business, if there is a credible source (wedding wire, the knot etc...) then they really do take that information into account.

I agree to an extent that some random quotes on a webpage don't mean a whole bunch. Unless verifiable via a Reference list.

What I guess I was leading to, was a shopper (like me) does not believe a lot of the comments and ratings seen on websites, seeing as I know some are unearned (as I was paid off to give a couple of good comments). A recommendation by someone who has a high reputation IS weighted high. The key is to have comments from meaningful and respected sources somehow. Comments that can be traced to "real" people (via Facebook or whatever) have more clout than simply listing a name.

Dead wrong! A combination of good reviews and positive FB comments on a business page have made s huge difference in my business. They practically sell things for me.

So, in other words, you are BS'ing your future clients...?

BTW, saying "Dead wrong" is rude and crude -- try "I disagree" instead, it will earn you more respect from people.

Coming from the King of BS?

Far from being the King of BS, I believe that title should go to Canute or Mix.

BTW, are you bi-polar by any chance? One day your nice, and the next day your an asshole. Kindly stick with one or the other, and amuse us all.

Can we act like adults on here for those that are? Why the insults? Small minds have nothing better to do I guess.

Mix, for your information -- me, Randy and Canute go back and forth on a regular basis. It's a chat board.

Ever since you came here, you've been telling us all what we should be doing. We all do things slightly different, but more or less along the same lines.

I don't believe we need a Master to tell us what to do.

For your information I don't tell you what to do. I make comments at time about some things you do just like you do me. It's up to you to do as you see fit what will work for you.

I remember one of my friends that died said a great thing once. You normally don't respond unless someone has hit a nerve. If it doesn't apply you can let that fly. I could tell you what do. Does that mean you have to do what I tell you or do you have a mind where you can decide if it's right for you or not?

So much for that "turn a corner" thing.............

Mix,
I know that you are NOT new at this, but your current business venture IS.
More of a business ADventure, I guess.
But you shouldn't be surprised because you missed out on a gig.
Especially from someone who says her "fiancee has a friend..." who will do it.
I'm pretty sure her fiancee would have told her that BEFORE she started calling DJ's.
She is using it as a bargaining tool. Either to get you to drop your price, or as an excuse to not pay your price.
A price that is NOT obnoxiously HIGH or LOW for your area.
If she beat you up and talked you into a lower price, she woulda been a pain to deal with.
Consider it a blessing.

I'm always an arse to you. ;)

You might remember you pissed me off once. I spent a good time digging in your past....very interesting life you had at one time. Some of the stuff you don't want others here to know. :humble:

I read the entire thread and circled back to the only thing that can be fixed in this scenario.

Now I did mention to my partner...

Mix, unless you're sharing a bed with this partner of yours, it's time to send them on their way. The only ships that sink are partnerships.

Imagine what you could accomplish if you didn't have to get approval from your anonymous friend over things like what prices you will charge, how to market your services, what equipment to buy, and what safe parties to play at. You have good intentions. What's your partner got that keeps him in your business?

I find a combination of PDF scanned thank you notes from clients, wedding wire reviews (tell them to go the site) and a list of client and venue referrals (phone numbers NOT available on-line...only over the phone) works well for me.

Learn to Sell and one would not have to rely on Reviews!

I thought I pissed you off more than once...? Gotta try harder next time :)

BTW, since you "dug" into my past, could you write a book about me? I'll share the profits with ya.

I don't dig into your past, because I don't care -- it's none of my business what you did 20-30 years ago.

Yea Randy, and be sure to really flesh out that whole sheep phase. I hear there's some pics floating around, somewhere. :D

They were goats -- not sheep.
