Make up your mind Canute. You said at first there would be an admission charge and that you were to collect the money from the door. Then you say there will be no cover charge. Which one is it? Then you said you don't work for free. So is this restaurant paying you to work this event? If so how much are they paying you? Will you be selling party favors at this event to make you some money?

I hear a noise! :pillrolleyes::pillrolleyes:

There you go again. Someone ask you a question and this is your response. I was just going by what you posted. Now since you don't work for free and nobody is paying to come to this party, how do plan to make money so you're not working for free?

I get it now. You're getting a percentage from the bar receipts for that night. You said you're expecting between 300 to 400 people to show up. So you're gambling on at least 300 people will come to this event and drink alcohol all night long making both you and the owner a ton of money? Like I said I hope for your part of the deal it makes you enough money that it is worth the gamble.

Now you said you're not promoting the event but then you said you are telling people about the event. Well that is promoting the event. Maybe not in the form of handing out postcards or putting an ad in a special news paper for info about what's going on in the bar and club scene. Still if you tell even one person about the event you're promoting the event. For me I wouldn't have a problem doing this at all as I would want as many people to come to this event as I can get to hopefully make me a lot of money.

Since you won't tell us the name of the restaurant for fear of some of us coming there and then posting on here how funny or corny the event was and how bad you sucked as the DJ at the event. Can you at least tell us the time the event is to start and when it ends?

You got it all wrong. I would never settle for just a percentage of Bar Receipts.

Mix,
this is NOT Canute's first rodeo.
I'm pretty sure that if it didn't work in the past,
he is smart enough to not make the same mistake a second time.

I know it isn't. I just want him to be clear about how he plans on getting paid from this gig since he said I work for free.

He is right about 1 event I do. My best Friend has a family and friends big cookout every year on the Saturday of Father's day weekend. The event got so big he no longer could have it in his backyard. He has it at South Mountain Reservation in South Orange, NJ. I do it for free. He was nice enough to let me store my gear when I first came back down in his basement. Also we've been best friends for over 40 years. So he gets that. I make sure I keep that date open for him and his wife. We have a ton of people show up and have a great time.

Now certainly I have been guilty of giving people great discounts and it has hurt me in the short and long run. I've had to learn I need not always feel sorry for a potential client giving them all types n my part thinking that will get their business.

Mix, I will answer your question. You really want to know? OK Here is the answer. I plan on getting paid CASH! Happy Now?

The thing is not him getting paid in cash but will me get enough cash that it will be worth it to have done the gig and since he said there was no admission charge did he make up an agreement to get paid a certain amount of money. That's what I prefer instead of depending on what the bar makes to make a certain amount of money.

With knowing up front what I am to get paid I can then decide if doing this is worth it. No guess work.

Canute ain't nothing stupid about me at all. You do things your way. I just said I prefer to have me knowing what I'm going to make from a gig up front. I don't to have to depend on how many people show up determine what I'm to make. You said you anticipate 300-400 will show up. What if only 50 people show up.

For me I just like them to worry about how many people will come. Just pay me and let them worry after that how they plan to make enough to justify the party being in their place.

Well, it's not your gig, so you have nothing to worry about.
And since it's not your gig, there is no NEED to know how it works.
Canute, I applaud you for holding your tongue (as it were) on this one.
(but it must be driving you crazy)

Why should he have to hold his tongue? I know it's not my gig and he'll do what he thinks will work for him. I wish him good luck with the gig. I hope he gets out of it was he was expecting to get.

I have a friend right now who is hot with having his own parties and he's making a ton of money right now for him, the DJ's he gets to help him with the parties along with the hotel where he is having these parties right now. My partner had his girl try to promote parties he was doing and all but one bombed miserably. That's because I tried to explain to him he needed to start off small and then work his way up.

First I told him he needed to find a place to play at where people would get to know who he is and build on that. They didn't come to those parties because he hadn't made a name for himself. So he was picking places to have these parties that were big places and trying to charge people to come to the party.

Whatever you just because he's my partner don't associate me with those parties. It was his and her idea to have the parties trying to make these parties work. If such things are done right you can make these things work. I have no doubt that this party that Canute is planning on throwing will be a big success because he knows what he's doing because he's done them before. My friend who throws these parties has been playing in a few different clubs for years and people know who he is and they feel comfortable attending his parties.

What he does at times is have people that the crowd will know come and sing at his parties. For example he'll get Kenny Bobien to come and sing at one of his parties. That's the guy who did the club song of "You Are My Friend" and "Gave Me Love". So his parties are a success for the most part. One of his parties that wasn't so great was when he first started having these parties at this hotel. The first one he only had around 125 people show up. From what he has done in the past that was a small crowd for him.

I'll say this much for him that's he's so good at promotions that he talked the hotel into letting him get the room where they have the parties that cost 2k to rent for free. He said he had to do a lot of talking but he finally got them to agree to let him throw these parties. On average now he gets 350-400 people to show up to one of his parties there and the hotel is loving him because not only does he get that many people to come to the party and the hotel makes a ton of money off the bar but also a lot of people will book a room so they can stay in the hotel after the party is over.
