First real gig since I got back in the game. After 3 months of spending money and putting together a system and lighting:

Was an Old School Dance, had about 70 folks (mostly 35-55 years old) for dinner and dance in a room about 1/2 to 2/3 size of HS gym.

For dinner I had a mix of 70's and 80's hits, not dance songs, just songs that many are off the beaten path, however you will remember exactly what you were doing the first time you heard them, for example, Chevy Van, Me and you and a Dog Named Boo, Shambala, Southern Cross etc.

Opened up the dance floor after dinner with Midnight Star (No Parking on the Dance Floor). packed the floor follwed up with the following play list, floor was never empty:

Lets Grove Tonight
You Dropped a Bomb on Me
Always
Sail on
Brick House
Play That Funky Music
Dazz
Sexual Healing
Talk It Over (Grayson Hughes version)
Sweet Home Alabama
Sweet Emotion
Shinning Star
Easy
Rappers Delight
Holiday
Fun
Shake You Down
Make It Real
Goin To the Bank
Rumors
Rock Steady
We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off
Kiss and Say Goodbye
Can't Get Enough of Your Love
Billie Jean
How Will I Know

Closed with what I always did in the mid to late 1980's God Bless the USA

I booked 5 gigs off this one dance.

I used to always set up big and I did for this and it paid for the work (5 gigs):

4 each EV-TX1181 subs centered in front of stage (modular stage 12" high)
2 each EV-TX1122 tops on EV poles, top of outer subs
2 each EV-TX-1152 tops on tripods, 12' out on each side from the outer subs, on stage, woofers 8' in the air, voice coils 6 ft aft of front cluster
Rack with 2 each EV-Q1212 amps, EV-DCONE and misc other support items, numark n4 mixer (and yes two laptops)
14 ADJ lighting fixtures, with haze.

The EV-DCONE is the trick to the sound in the system and it was spot on. I never flashed the 0 db light on the amps, but flashed the -10 db often. The bass was tight and you felt it while the tops were crystal clear and covered the entire room.

Comments were they never heard a system they could feel in their chest on the dance floor that clear. They liked that they could hear the music anywhere in the room with full tone content, and it was loud (which they liked) but they could talk over it easily, without shouting at the table.

Another local DJ attending said, "well it is all over now, I might as well come work for you " Just so everyone know, he is a better MC/DJ than I will ever be, he just doesn't have the level of equipment I have.

I have my first HS event coming up Saturday, Christian School, they listen to the latest stuff, just don't allow language or content like Donk or Cat Daddy. Would you guys be so kind as to recommend a good play list, I have most everything on the market.

Thanks Ray J.

Sorry I left out the fact that I did have to slide in Cupid and Electric Boogie for a group of girls whos (Good Old Boys) husbands were scared to dance.
